identd removed in Centos4.3?
Hi all,
Has identd been removed from the upstream release? If so what replaces it?
I see an oidentd rpm on DAG, but I'm curious about what I should be using?
Many Thanks

ident daemon: oIdentd creating a lot of processes
hi! all,
i'm using oidentd-2.0.8 installed through /usr/ports/security/oidentd
for ident authentication
what puzzled me is when im starting the daemon using the script
provided at /usr/local/etc/rc.d/oidentd.sh it will create a lot of
process ID and my system will become slow
CPU resources will turn upside down rapidly from 90+% idle to always 0% idle
this is the PIDs while querying daemon

freenode #asterisk IRC channel identd problem
Sorry to ask this question here since it's related to IRC and not
Asterisk, but I am having trouble logging into the #asterisk IRC channel
on freenode and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and
solved it.
So here's the situation: Whenever I try to login to the #asterisk
channel I get a message like "you must be identified to login to this
channel." So after doing

Bug#271286: minor fix for ignore.d.server/oidentd
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.27
Severity: wishlist
hello,
in ignore.d.server/oidentd you have:
^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ oidentd\[[0-9]+\]: Connection from \
[._[:alnum:]-]+ \([0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\):[0-9]{1,5}$
anyway, some oidentd logs don't have a hostname:
oidentd[34562]: Connection from 241.145.24.135:2353
therefore you have to add:
^\w{3} [

Identd in jail.
Hi
Few days ago I've problem with running identd in jail on 4.10-stable
I've found that getcred() sysctl isn't permitted from within jail on 4.x.
R.Watson suggest some "cheap hack" for this but I've solved this
without patching the kernel.
My patched ident gets result of getcred() sysctl from jauthd daemon via
unix socket. Jauthd is simply getcred proxy, it gets two

identd w/ openssh
I've just realised that when a user uses ssh to connect to a machine, then
sets up a port forward and uses it, the resulting connection is reported by
identd as belonging to root. While I realise ident is not any kind of
secure authentication, it doesn't make much sense to make it even less so
by letting any user create connections reported to be made by root.
The sshd should drop all

IRC channel #asterisk on irc.freenode.net
Hi all!
It's great to start with "for dummies" question, but hey, we all have
been human infants also =)
Problem is, that I can not log on to this channel and I haven't found
anything helpful during the past few days either.
1. The irc.freenode.net server gives me "Couldn't look up your hostname"
and "No identd (auth) response" followed with

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet
"The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify
the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled,
as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections."
but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature.

I''m in the process of locking down as much of my systems here
as possible as to available ports. I am down to only a handful
but am not sure how much of a security risk they pose and was
wondering if anyone here might be able to comment, or suggest

Devise auth based on ssl keys
Hi, guys.
I already have a rails 3.1.2 and ruby 1.9.3 vast app with an auth based
on devise. Now I want to add to the my app a ssl key based auth. As
web-server it uses thin and nginx as proxy. I have made only ssl on the
nginx at 443 and only for some app pathes (e.g. /articles, /search etc).
How I can tell to the my app and devise use the ssl keys and assign them

samba and squid?
Hi all. I'd like to look into using samba in conjunction with squid, to
authenticate users before leaving the intranet thru the squid proxy.
I'm using RH6, and thought there may be either a PAM module to do this, or
the possibility of authenticating against a PDC or samba server for squid
authentication?
Thanks,
Dave

What happened to the mirrors?
Hi all,
what happened to the mirrors? Many of them are outdated and older than
2days. They are missing the latest updates from yesterday and the day
before yesterday. According to http://mirror-status.centos.org a
whopping number of 227 mirrors are currently out of date. This is the
major part of all European mirrors. :(
Can someone please have a closer look at this?
Thanks a lot and regards

produce a map in ARCGIS from a GAM output
Hi,
I am trying to predict the habitat suitability of lobster with GAMs. I need to produce a map in ArcGis of the predicted densities. I did some search and the function predict.gam seems to do the job.
Is this the right way to do it? when you apply the function you get the predicted values (different from your input data points) but I do not understand what is the procedure with the spatial

Howto route through
Hello list,
I''m having a little trouble imagining a setup I''ll soon have.
I am in the process of getting a routed /28 to my homeLAN. What I want
to do is to put a linux box in front of the lan to filter some of the
unneeded and potential dangerous ports. Now the box has 2 nics, one for
the inside one for the outside.
How should I go on to setup those NICs when

BUG? Draggable''s handle implementation does not match the documents
Hi,
First thanks for your great scripts!
According to the documents:http://script.aculo.us/drag-and-drop
The Draggable''s option ''handle'' value is a string referencing a CSS class.
The first child/grandchild/etc.
element found within the element that has this CSS class will be used as the
handle.
However, in the source code file dragdrop.js line 250, is,
