Icecast is not a player, but a stream aggregator platform. To do what
you're looking for, you'd need a player capable of

Best method of grabbing Now Playing metadata with PHP?
Hi...
Can someone do me the favour of pointing us at a routine, library,
script or technique that will grab Now Playing metadata (Title, Artist,
Album) remotely (ie from another machine) from an Icecast 2.4.x server
reliably for logging purposes, preferably using PHP?
Ideally we would grab the metadata when it changes - all the methods
we've tried so far require us to poll the server so

Best method of grabbing Now Playing metadata with PHP?
Hi, Fred...
Many thanks for the suggestion!
If we simply want to output metadata as you describe, how much,if any,
of the prerequisites described in
https://github.com/RadioFreeAsia/GlassPlayer/blob/master/INSTALL
can we dispense with? We are dealing with a shared hosting system for
the host so installing the bare minimum would be a good idea (especially
as we may have to ask the provider to

Error connecting from XP Pro
Hello List,
I have been trying to connect from an XP Pro box to
the samba (2.2.2 from RPM on RH7.2) machine. I am
trying a simple (!) configuration with just a
WORKGROUP setup.
XP sees the the box running samba (in the My Network
Places) but cannot see anything below that. I get

Couldn't you also just have a client stream locally from icecast that can do things on metadata change? I mean it's a bit icky but it'd work.

Samba+MYOB
Hello all,
We are experiencing problems using MYOB Premier V6.0.2 on Windows 2000
computers SP3, with the data file residing on shared drive on Linux (Redhat
7.2) file server running Samba Version 2.2.1a and kernel 2.4.9-34.
The MYOB Tech support have told me that it is a problem with our network but
could not give me any hints where the problem might be.
The MYOB database has been corrupted

icast.com has been shutdown
...as it has been announced before.
Also, I can't access www.vorbis.com, it seems that this site came down
together with icast.com. So the only official vorbis web site now is only
at hiph.org. Just to let everyone know...
Greetings,
Aleksandar

Questions about ICAST and Web Development
-HOW does ICECAST stream content?
-Can it stream sound being spoken live over a microphone?
-Can this live audio be streamed in an MP3 format?
-Can this audio be streamed to HTTP Web browsers (including XMLHttpRequest techniques)?
-How does an HTML file being served by Apache/Tomcat best set up
so that the browser can correctly accept sound from ICECAST?

Coding in python using shout-python bindings
Hello,
I'm creating a module written in python that brings an easy to implement
interface for the libshout lib, mainly to provide streaming capabilities
to a gnome player called Exaile (http://www.exaile.org). The module is
almost done (already available at
http://devpower.blogsite.org:8080/archivos/icastplugin.py) but I'm
encountering some problems (I believe sync problems):

Coding in python using shout-python bindings
Just a thought:
I don't know the python API, but it reminds me of a common
"bug"/strange behaviour in other languages (eg PHP): often this
happens because one call to "f.read(4096)" is not enough to get the
full message. And if I recall exactly, it's no use to increase from
4096 to 8192 or more : it's because the f.read method is async, i.e.
one call may not

Icecast usability
Hi
We are looking for a product that applies to this specs.
1) We need to allow different users / departments access to upload Audio
and Video files for streaming
2) We need to comply with MPEG4 and MP3. And that playing does not require
a specific player (we can accept Windows Media Player, QuickTime, iTunes,
Winamp)
3) We want users to be able to organise their material - and that m3u

Recomendations
Dear Icecast community,
For several weeks I am running two IceCast2 streams.
I am very pleased with the stability and performance of the Icecast
application.
Thumbs-up for the developers of this great piece of software!!
The sources (live audio) are generated with two separated liveice-sn04 and
streams to the remote Icecast servers.
So far so good!
Frequently one of the sources stops to stream

A large streaming project

Icast at one point had about 456 stations or so. We were able to do
this (all the music was preencoded) with 8 machines quite reliably.
Basically 4 machines sourced streams, and 4 machines served them. Only
three machines were really needed, so failures were taken care of if
only one machine
