getent passwd problem
Hi,
I am having a weird issue with samba where once a week approximately at the
same time users will lose connectivity,
if i run
wbinfo -u all users are displayed
wbinfo -g all groups are displayed
However running getent passwd only shows local-users, no remote users are
shown..
To fix the issue I have to change the name of my idmap config and restart
samba and winbind and everything works

SMS Gateway .... for Rails app? (a bit OOT)
I''m simply looking for a SMS gateway... The ones like what Twitter uses...
The intended audience would be globally.
Some of you would have used them and I''d really appreciate if you could
share your experience.
I''ve Googled and the problem isn''t that there is none, the problem is
that there are simply too many. Almost like looking for a webhosting. So

Creating user home directories with domain login
Hello,
I've got Samba set up for domain logins and use
winbind as well. What I'm wondering is if it's
possible for the home directory to be automatically
created when the user logs in if it doesn't already
exist? If not, anyone have a relatively easy way to
do this, in addition to giving the proper owner and
group?
Thanks,
Scott

Updated Spam Assassin for CentOS 5...
I am wondering about updating the version of Spam Assassin on my CentOS 5 mail
server. The current version, 3.3.1-4.el5 (stock RHEL version), has been
'leaking' recently. I suspect I need some newer match rules to detect some of
the newer flavors of spam. I see that in rpmforge's extras repo is version
3.3.2-4.el5.rfx -- is this version worth installing? Are there even newer

rsync over ftp
Hello,
I would like to use rsync client over ftp. I know how to use it with ssh but
it just can't work with ftp or ncftp. The purpose of usign it with ftp is
simple: most webhosting soft. like cpanel or plesk don't monitor ssh
bandwidth usage. You need to monitore it in order to suspend an over-quota
account.
I tried the following:
rsync -avze '/usr/bin/ftp -nv' /tmp/testdir

ChrootDirectory security
Hello,
I've tried many places, finally ending up here to ask my question: why
is it so vital that the directory used with the ChrootDirectory
directive is root-owned?
Like many people I'm trying to use this in a webhosting environment
where several users get sftp-only access to some directory, usually
something like /home/user/web/part-of-website.
I can be sure that there are no setuid

[OT] What is the best network monitoring tool?
Hi all,
Currently I have a big question.
What is the best OPEN SOURCE solution for monitoring multiple Host and
Services, for example for using in a WebHosting Provider with 50 hosts or
more.
Currently, I'm using NAGIOS for more than 3 years, this is a incredible
tool, but before upgrade to version 3, I have this existential question.
Please fill free to recommend any soft, but with this

systemd: Failed unmounting /var on reboot, should I worry about fs corruption?
Hi all,
I have Centos 8 installed on a physical machine (www6) with separate LVM
volumes for /, /var, /var/lib/mysql etc.
System boot proceeds without a hiccup, in terminal systemctl status says
everything is OK and running, journalctl says so as well - systemd
mounts everything stated in fstab.
However, on reboot systemd echoes problems with filesystem on /var :

3.7.1p1 PAM Problems in RedHat 6.2
I've corresponded with several different techs at a
major dedicated webhosting provider and they too
so far have not been able to determine why the
newest version of OpenSSH 3.7.1p1 is conflicting
with PAM on our server running RedHat linux 6.2.
I've also tried installing 3.7.1p1 on other RedHat 6.2
servers and the exact same PAM problems. But on
7.1 RedHat servers I've had absolutely

Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?
I did a yum update on my CentOS 6 laptop and it upgraded Firefox to 78, and
FF stopped seeing my mic and speakers. Is there some magic I need to do? As
a short term (?) fix, I downgraded back to Firefox 68. My system is otherwise
up-to-date.

Maximum number of LANMAN Work Items and concurrent connections from IIS 6.0 to Samba
Hey there folks!!
I have a question about the maximum number of LANMAN Work Items and
concurrent connections from IIS 6.0 to Samba.
We have a server for shared windows webhosting running Windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 (with ASP.NET 2.0) connecting to debian 3.1 with Samba 3.0.22
(functioning as a fileserver).
At this moment there are about 250 sites running on this server. Now

Hi,
I would like to know if the following is possible:
* how to accept only one call at a time on a
particular SIP extension (softphone). I'm referring to
incoming calls. Can it be done on the server side or
just on the client? ie. all other incoming calls will
just be dropped while the extension is busy. In other
words I would like to simulate having just one phone
line available. I tried

Secure server install
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'll try.
When I do a minimum install of Centos, which default users should I delete (users that won't be needed on a
server) It will be used for webhosting, mail, sql.. And, what partitions would you advice me to create? /root,
/tmp, swap, /... should I have more?

Getting slapd under CentOS 6 to log connections, etc.
I am running the stock OpenLDAP-servers on a CentOS 6 system. Everything is
working just fine, but I am trying to debug connections from a Ubuntu (18.04)
system and want to turn on logging in slapd, but although I can get slapd to
create a log file, it never actually writes anything.
I have these two lines in /etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif:
olcLogFile: /var/log/slapd/log
olcLogLevel:
