Hi, All
I'm totally new here, too.
Does Icecast use any multicast protocol?
Thanks a lot.

Matt, I guess you are aware you will need :
1. an encoder (eg. MuSE, ICES, DARKICE etc)
2. a streaming server (eg. Icecast2)
These can run on the same machine but its generally not a good idea
(although others may disagree with this but I woudl rather not have a
crticial system where a single point of failure could bring the whole
thing to a stop).
The machine you mention (the PIII) should be

Hello,
I'm testing icecast2(apha2) and ices2(beta2). (sources 2003-08-12)
ices2 with ices-playlist works fine!
But I have troubles whith ices-live.
When ices2 trays to read /dev/dsp a log message appears:
INFO input-oss/oss_read Reached EOF, no more data available.
and ices2 shutdown.
the complete log file (debug=4):

Open the /etc/default/icecast2 file as root in an editor. The last line
needs to be changed to
ENABLE=true
It still looks like it is set to
ENABLE=false

of the time its 120 kbytes but every 3-4 time its 120 or 116 kbytes.
The config file is attached. As you can see I am starting two icecast
streams, one 128 kbits and one 64. It also leaks with just one stream.
Thanks,
Kristjan

webroot.
On Windows and Centos that's easy as that's just ONE directory.
On Debian and it's ancestors, Ubuntu being one of them, there are TWO
directories and he put the files in the wrong one of both and doesn't
symlink them from the right one. I tried to explain this to him on IRC
and I summarized this here on the mailing list.
I'd suggest anyone with web serving related

involved. This is easy enough to verify, dump to a file as described on
that page and feed the resulting file to 'ogginfo'.
If it is indeed properly muxed into an Ogg container, then just
forwarding it via HTTP PUT instead of writing it to a file should do the
job.
I'd suggest someone just tries it. If you need a Icecast server to test
against I can also provide that. Ping me on IRC

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your responce. I was planning on doing both, the encoding
and serving, form the same machine, and I'm not sure I see any
stability gains by splitting it up. Understand having, for example, a
file server and mail server on different machines, so if one goes down
you can still use the other. But in this case, one service depends on
the other (the server has nothing to
