Ogg response headers
icecast doesn't look at the headers at all, they look only at the mountpoint...so in your case, it will look up /my_mp3 or /example.ogg and serve that stream. Icecast WILL send a Content-type in the response headers to the client, but most media players don't actually determine stream types off the Content-type (I think the defunct winamp3 did), but rather by file extension..So in

Ogg response headers
> clear as mud ? Thick in it LOL Ok since you discussed how clients handle mp3, what about ogg vorbis? winamp is just supposed to recognize the .ogg extension? like i said before the mp3 works with that code, but ogg mounts just sit there, doing nothing. <p>Dave St John Mediacast1 Administration ----- Original Message ----- From: "oddsock" <oddsock@oddsock.org> To:

Client Woes
My problem is not with the Icecast server, but with my user's ability to get a decent client to play the streams. I have 3 Icecast streams created using Ices, and the mountpoints have the mp3 extension. My users and I have observed: 1) If Quick Time is brought up by the browser, it skips and chokes on the stream. 2) If Windows Media is brought up by the browser, it will do either of two

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
make sure that your mountpoint does not have a .ogg extention with the mp3 stream, otherwise, it will try to play using the ogg plugin, and will stay at 0% buffer On Thu, 10 Mar 2005 19:45:09 +0100, Kai Schaetzl <maillists@conactive.com> wrote: > I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my > old-fashioned stereo equipment :-) > But a friend asked me

Icecast in Macromedia Flash
Hi - Ok, I don't pretend to have answers for you, sorry, but here are some thoughts: [snip] > HERE IS THE PROBLEM: the code above works perfectly in a standalone swf file > but not when the swf is embedded into a webpage. So you have to assume that there is some difference between the embedded player and the standalone player. <p>> > I analyzed the logs of my icecast

Icecast2 Station with multiple scheduled DJs?
At WXBH-LP we had a similar need, and we solved it using mpd (music player daemon) to coordinate our feed to icecast. mpd is a music player (supporting playlists, etc.) originally designed for local network streaming, but it has several attributes that make it suitable for other things: * Items in its playlists can be local audio files or remote streams (e.g. DJ streams). * It

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my old-fashioned stereo equipment :-) But a friend asked me to setup a shoutcast server for him, so I went out and installed it, played a bit with it and didn't like it. So I looked for an open source alternative and found Icecast. Installed fine, works fine. But there is one thing which puzzles me and I hope someone

Hi Dale, I agree with you but how do you suggest convincing these software companies to implement ogg support in their players? I can imagine Itunes and XMMS but it's going to be harder for Windows Media Player and Winamp. Microsoft is promoting its very own WMA. I guess they implemented mp3 because it was already too popular to reject it. About Winamp, I don't know if Nullsoft is going

Add-on patch to support .pls .asx .ram .qtl listing formats
Hi, If you have multiple players installed on your PC/Mac .m3u will always open the last media player who are the default in charge of the extension and mime m3u. On your web site you want maybe to force a link to open real media player or quicktime/itune. You need to create a .pls to force winamp loading the streaming because windows media player won't open .pls etc. If you add a .pls

Config and other areas of struggle
Hi there, I am relatively new in the field of server administration, so please do bear with me if my question has an answer which seems blatantly obvious. I recently installed the latest Icecast onto my machine and read the documentation in order to find out how to configure the server. Both the information in the docs, and even the example config file, seemed reasonablly self-explanatory. After

In the realm of internet radio id have to say 80% use winamp, or other players supporting http streaming. Winamp being the biggest major player and xmms for linux. Only noobs to the pc world use windows media and real player, since they are the ones thrown in your face. Once the noobs find internet radio, its a matter of seconds before they are downloading winamp. Windows media only recently with

Client Woes
Uh, looks like I didn't read closely enough to recognize the depth of the problem :-). Jack's instructions on making/using .m3u files will make the stream play in Winamp. To have it play in RealPlayer, use an identical file - but with a .ram extension. -bg > > The URL looks like this: http://www.RainbowRadio.com:8000/club.mp3 > > > > My goal is to instruct users as

Mhhh. I am streaming from a 8mbit adsl connection so it should be fast enough. I tried streaming with media player, it's working for 24 hours now, doesn't seem to have the problem, is my winamp 5.03 broken? Or is winamp broken in general? :) Thanks for the help.
