static file streaming
Hi,
I have installed the Icecast2 on my Ubuntu Linux and I was not able to
figure out how I could stream static mp3 files.
Can anybody help me? What should I do to do this?
I put the mp3 file in the webroot and I tried to retrieve it with the "
http://host:port/try.mp3" URL but I could only download it (as a whole)
but not as a streamed media.
Do I have to convert the mp3 to another

Scripted playlists with shout?
Hi,
Another basic question (the list archive search doesn't seem to be
working).
Is it possible to do scripted playlists with shout? I want to allow the
people at my site to upload new mp3 files to the server and have them placed
in the playlist automatically. I tried generating the playlist (file) with
crontab, but it seems shout only reads the playlist once, at startup.

No sound on any stream.
I have 2 icecast servers and neither will play music, 1 gentoo, the other
ubuntu when connect to a mount and trying to broadcast via mixxx using both
mp3 or ogg. Both will establish a stream feed but appears to have no sound.
One of them won't even stream a ices2 mounted song either (same symptom,
connect but no actual play occurs). Error logs are clean too, firewall is
turned off on both

Multiple playlists on multiple streams
I am just starting to use icecast and would appreciate some help with setup.
I have searched the archive and read the documentation, but I am unable to determine how to get ices to stream a playlist on one mount point and another separate playlist on another mount point. Is it supported? I know that streaming the same playlist at different bit rates on different mount points is supported.

No sound on any stream.
I figured out half the issue.
Icecast appears to be transmitting on port 8000 just fine. The more I dig,
the more I realize icecast is fine.
Browser vlc seems to be broke. Direct connect via VLC standalone to ->
http://66.228.49.182:8000/66.228.49.182.ogg.m3u works perfect.

I break there.
Thank you!

Icecast not streaming from playlist. (Newbie)
Hi all,
I'm new to the streaming audio thing, but have been a linux user for 7 or 8
years. Here's some background:
I work in a really EMI-nasty environment that prevents receiving radio
broadcasts. In order to listen to sporting events, local news, etc. I
planned to set up icecast to stream live audio snatched from a radio at
home, and listen to it at work.
I installed icecast,

ices 0.4 can't find playlists...
Hello,
I've compiled and successfully run icecast2 with ices on a single
stream. But I'm running into problems running multiple streams from
ices to icecast...
I used the <playlist>...</playlist> syntax to run a single stream, but
the docs on icecast.org seem to suggest using the <input>...</input>
syntax instead. I've actually tried it both ways, with

ices 0.4 can't find playlists...
Maybe I'm misunderstanding ices' capabilities...is ices 0.4 only
capably of handling a single playlist? Do I need to run multiple
instances of ices in order to process multiple playlists?
My issue is that I need to stream mp3 audio, not ogg (iTunes doesn't
support .ogg yet natively), and if I'm reading the docs correctly,
ices2 only supports .ogg, not .mp3. Is this correct,

Re-2: streaming MP3s?
I'm using icecast-2.0-alpha-2 and ices-2.0-Beta2.
When I put the .mp3 file in my webroot and start laying it via winamp/location/<filename>.mp3 it works fine, just when I try using the playlist via ices I get a 404.

playlist streams
Hello again
No replies regarding memory requirements!
I have an idea to provide 1000's of streams without the requirement of
100's of source PC's, and perhaps without even requiring Icecast at all.
But I'm not sure if this will work.
We will have thousands of 24 hour playlists generated everyday by
software I'm developing. If we encode all our audio files at 32kb/s,

Serving a playlist.pls / listen.m3u file
Hi - I've heard that Icecast provides a fake "playlist file" along the lines of
http://blahblah:8000/listen.m3u
or
http://blahblah:8000/playlist.pls
because Quicktime can't seem to handle the stream without a playlist
file to wrap it up. (There may be other reasons.) However, I can't
seem to find any documentation about this, and guessing various URLs

Intro file automatically tagged on stream
Hi,
I am looking for a solution for a short station ident to be included at the
start of our stream file. Currently we have a short playlist, but this
then doesn't work in itunes, and people can just click forward to go to the
stream.
I hear that this is possible in Shoutcast, so hopefully there is something
similar in icecast. Yes I have asked this before and got our current
solution

can't use icecast2 in ubuntu 12.04
Hello,
first of all thank you for your patience and having answered you.
I tried to change port from 8000 to 8001 but nothing happened. I am using a vps server so I don?t need to open port from router.
I paste here all my icecast.xml configuration file.
can you please give a llok and tell me if all seems ok to you?
still thank you!

RE: Two questions
I am happy using icecast/ices, but have two questions:
1. If I was using cron to schedule a switching of a playlist, can I do
this without restarting icecast so that at a SPECIFIC TIME (let's say at
exactly 3:00 pm) a new song can be played without interupting the user
listening to the broadcast.
2. Is there a setting when the user first connects to play a *welcome*

redirect a defunct sc stream to icecast stream
hello,
Perhaps this is a common request. Our station had a single shoutcast
stream on domain:9999/listen.pls. Now that I am using icecast, the stream
playlist will end in m3u, preferably on the same port. I would rather
redirect the listen.pls requests to this new stream instead of requesting
other sites and relays to change the url. One relay in particular is very
difficult to communicate
