Ices Crashing (BUS error)
Hi, I'm currently migrating from Shoutcast/MP3 to Icecast/OGG/Vorbis using ices. Unfortunately, when initialising the encoder, ices crashes with a bus error. Is there anything I can look into? Details as follows: icecast2-2.1.0,1 ices-2.0.0,1 libshout2-2.0_5,1 libogg-1.1.2_1,3 libvorbis-1.1.0_1,3 (All were installed from the ports tree) On FreeBSD ares.radiozilvervos.com 5.3-RELEASE-p4

Iax and ZAP
I have a working system with two fxo and two fxs channels. I recenlty got an IAX2 account I would like to use also. While I have gotten the IAX2 channel to "register", it remains non functional, as the incoming calls, go nowhere and the outgoing calls attempt to go out over the ZAP channel. I can see this, via the CLI, with debugs on. I strongly suspect this is a dial plan/config

ssh daemon fails to call pam when user does not exist in /etc/passwd
Hi We recenlty ugraded to openssh-3.7.1p2. Our architecture is ssh daemon uses pam module which sends request to remote radius/tacacs+ servers based on configuration. Now if I create the user in /etc/passwd, then ssh daemon calls pam and everthing works fine. But if the user is not present in /etc/passwd, then ssh daemon is not calling pam. The debug log is given below. All these

ices: forcing an immediate reread of the playlist
Hi all, I'm currently trying to set up ices2 with icecast2 along with otto, a jukebox interface written in perl. Otto allows the user to kill a song via the web interface, which in turn kills all running instances of ices, rewrites the playlist and launches ices. This has the bad side effect of terminating the client's connection to icecast and leaving a bunch of ices

Question about relays, mountpoints and fallback
Hi, I'm trying to make the following situation work: We have a jukebox (/jukebox.ogg) and live DJs (/live.ogg). The jukebox should be the active stream when no DJ is connected and also the fallback if the DJs connection should drop. However, when a DJ is connected, one should not be able to listen to the jukebox correctly. So there would be 1 effective stream as a result. (Users are

WARNING: <file> failed verification -- update discarded (will try again).
I've been using rsync for a long time, and it's very cool. For the first time, last night, I got a message I don't understand. I am using rsync 2.6.4 on Fedora (FC4) Linux to a Fedora (FC3) Linux machine. The command I am using is: rsync -av --delete-excluded --exclude="*~" --exclude="#*#" <source dir> remove_machine:<dest dir> I got the following

Adding authenticated mountpoints
I've got a jukebox type programme streaming out through multiple Ices (0.4) sources, and an Icecast (2.2) server streaming to the listeners over the web. As a new user starts to play tracks on the jukebox, it writes a new ices.conf file (with the specific mountpoint, bitrate etc for that user) and spawns an instance of Ices to stream out that user's music. As it stands today Icecast

Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi, I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils, and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to do it well, UNIX philosophy

MusicMatch Jukebox-like mp3 player...
Looking for recommendations.... On WinXP, I use MusicMatch Jukebox version 9 for all my tinkering with mp3s. What do you guys use that would match the functionality of MMJB? I'm mainly interested in the music library setup of MMJB... -- --- David Woyciesjes

'Jukebox' quality?
In light of the recent study - http://www.airwindows.com/encoders/index.html - posted at slashdot, I've come to realize how little I know about this whole field. So, I'm making an appeal to the audio experts here. I want 'jukebox' quality, meaning ~0 artifacts while maintaining a good compression ratio, but not quite 'archival' (read high bitrate) as I don't mind

eve online crashing shortly after takeoff
Hi all, I've got a strange problem with wine and eve-online. Eve loads up, lets me login and choose character, but freezes 10-15 seconds after that, pegging the cpu at 99% until I kill the process. Anybody have any ideas what causes that? Wall of text to follow, and am happy to post any more info needed. Thanks! Asus G50 laptop nvidia 9800GS, 512MB Ubuntu 10.04 Wine 1.2 terminal output:

Adding authenticated mountpoints
OK, so let me check I understand how the timing must work: 0) New user joins the jukebox and wants to start listening to music. Jukebox app selects a mountpoint name, user ID and password 1) Modify the icecast.conf file with the new mountpoint 2) Send HUP to icecast 3) Set up username:password for new stream 4) Create new stream's ices.conf file 5) Spawn new instance of ices to stream

NFS mountpint redistributed over SMB
Hi, I have an NFS mount point served as a samba share. I know it's kind of lame, and until recenlty I was sure that this isn't the kind of case that would work, because over the years I experimented with this and all I was getting were failures. But I accudentally discovered that it's working, but under one condition: the user must be a domain administrator (my samba is a AD

suggestion: add mp3 support to ices2
It says here there hasn't been much interest in handling mp3 with ices2: http://www.icecast.org/files/ices_docs/faq.html I just wanted to mention that I'm interested in doing so. I use ices for a web-based jukebox project called Tunez. I have tried the other suggested icecast streamers and have had major problems with both of them (muse and liveice). It would be really cool if the

[Flac-users] is there a way to read the length of a song from the command line?
I am working on an audio jukebox and would like to read the length of a song (minutes:seconds) from a perl script. Is there a way to do that? I don't see anything in the docs for flac or metaflac. Number of listeners per server box ?
> Given my experience of running multiple streams on an > old 486, I'd say you will run out of bandwidth before you > overpower the server. Bandwidth is indeed the biggest resources. We used dual CPU p3-600's at icast. We had 4 machines and we built it to easily handle 12,000 listeners over 500 streams. Only 3 were active at any one time ( the 4th was failover ). CPU load

vorbis tag for general music type?
Hi, I am wondering if vorbis has a standard tag for general music type. I don't mean pop, jazz, etc., but something more in line with describing the mood of the mucic. I am thinking of games which have a soundtrack in vorbis format which could use the user's own repository of .ogg files during gameplay, and use the tag to choose appropriate music for that part of the game. For
