Server question - if you had ...
If you had $3,000 for a new Icecast2 streaming server, what would you buy? What box, hard drives, LAN cards, etc.? The project I am involved with is helping community groups in UK webcast live public meetings and events. Democaster also archives Icecast streams for on-demand streaming or download. We are focused on high accessibility and low cost. See: http://dowire.org/wiki/Democaster Because

Your ideas ...
I am looking for ideas on how to best webcast public meetings. The general idea is to allow folks to easily send their live or recorded meeting audio up to a server via their browser. My goal is to present an alternative to more expensive video webcasting for small local government and community groups that want to "double" their audience from 10 people a the room with a net

Release of libvirt-0.8.2
Following Dan advice, I decided to not wait for more patches and push the current git head as the release. Let's plan to have another release by this month end with the QEmu debugging and hacking APIs. The release is available as usual at ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt Quite a lot of bug fixes during the two months since 0.8.1, and a few new feature. It also tagged more commits as being

Important Statement to Review for Signing
(Seems to me that Icecast folks would be particularly concerned about this. Please consider the following, lend your signatures, and also *send it on* to appropriate interested parties. If you are a blogger or know clueful bloggers, please try to have it posted in a highly visible forum. -- Seth Johnson) Hello folks, Please review the important joint statement below, related to the WIPO

OT: "The Ignorance of Crowds" (was: OT Slightly: )
I see what Dean means about how Digium/Asterisk might have struck a balance between "the cathedral and the bazaar" antipodes of the SW development world. Nicholas Carr's "The Ignorance of Crowds" finally states his "politics" when it says "When you move from the bazaar to the cathedral, it?s best to leave your democratic ideals behind." But treating

Forums
I created an account on the Forums this morning, but I got an error saying they were having a problem sending e-mail. I sent a message to the webmaster and no response either. So I can't post to the forum until my account is activated. Are the forums new? By the amount of traffic on the list, this must be where most people resolved their problems. I am thinkgng about installing CentOS 4 on my

Icecast / liveice quandry
I've been running classic icecast + liveice for some time now (several years) without problems. A couple days ago, the station manager (NPR affiliate) came to me and asked if we could 'inject' a static file into the stream. Basically what he wants is for the client to first receive a static file (requesting donations of course) and then on to the live stream (*not* intermittently).

Trouble with EZStream
The following behavior began about a day ago. NO changes have been made to the Fedora 20 (Heizenbug) system on which these things run. For no obvious or accountable reason, EZStream has stopped streaming. Here's a copy of the output from the ezstream command itself: # ezstream -c "/home/admin/ezstream/dn.xml" ezstream: Connected to http://localhost:8000/broadband ezstream: Streaming

liveice problem
Hello everybody... I figure this is not exactly an icecast question, but maybe someone might be able to help. Icecast runs nicely as far as I can see, and so does liveice, apart from the fact I don't get any input signal fed into it. I think it's due to the fact it expects the signal on line in by default and the souncard only has a mic in. So I tried to use the built in mixer mode,

FreeBSD in general
Hello everyone, I am very tempted to try and use icecast as the weapon of choice to realize a live audio stream for the radio station I work for. Now, the last time I tried the FreeBSD port of Icecast, it immediately consumed something like 95% CPU time, even without any client connected. I think someone else reported that problem, but I somehow lost track of the issue - has this been

Patches to enable logging of sftp and scp
Hi all, Looking around for a way to turn on server side logging of files transferred via sftp/scp, these kept-up-to-date patches cropped up: For SFTP http://sftplogging.sourceforge.net For SCP http://sweb.cz/v_t_m/ (near the bottom) Would someone from the OpenSSH team have time/inclination enough to look at adding these to OpenSSH itself? network namespace for multiple overlapping nat networks?
I have noticed that you can't have multiple separate NAT style libvirt networks defined with the same private IP blocks. For example I have this default network: <network> <name>default</name> <uuid>13baf167-02ff-4312-928c-b82ed4df5785</uuid> <forward mode='nat'> <nat> <port start='1024' end='65535'/>

Binary Logit Regression with R
Hi to all, I am a PH.D Student doing statistical analysis. I am totally new to R. I previously use Stata and am changing into R. I ususally do with logit regression with binary dependent variable (war occurence:1 or 0). I just want to know command to do that. More sepcifically, Let say, my Y is war occurence (occur=1, otherwise 0). And my independent variables (Xs) are trade, democracy,

understanding error.log
Hello. A couple questions. When I execute curl http://myserver.xxx.xxx:8000/test.mp3 , I get "<b>The source you requested could not be found.</b>" I've placed my error.log and icecast.xml files below. Could someone help me understand my error.log a little better - to maybe see why I'm not getting a stream when I make the above curl call. Also, you'll see in

rsync parameters errors
In my new bash script, I'm doing what I think is a very simple rsync command the way I'm used to doing it. I just do a lot of setup and checking before I get to it. When I run it, it gets very unhappy with me. It's probably something very simple. I need to build the rsync command in a string so that some things can go away - like if my variables DRY_RUN and DELETE are undefined,

Decent How-To now on the wiki for setting up Transport Layer Security
Hi all, For anyone that's interested in setting up TLS with libvirt, but hasn't gotten around to it yet, there's a decent guide on the wiki now: http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/TLSSetup It's user focused (ie SysAdmin's), and has lots of pics explaining concepts, plus shows what needs to be done, and shows how to do it. Please note, it doesn't cover SASL, it's just
