for most stations that have this kind of listener capacity, they are
getting bandwidth from AOL/Nullsoft. Nullsoft had (may still have) a
policy of offering free bandwith to stations they hand-picked. They
were tapping into the rather huge amount of bandwidth that AOL had, and
thus could offer the kind of listener capacity you are seeing.
Alternatively, many stations also operate on

I'm trying to write comment writer thing for zinf, because I love the
program, but it doesn't fully support ogg. I've found how to read
comments, but can't figure how to write them. There has been some
discussion about this previously in the archives, but I couldn't find
any specifics, only references to code not posted to the list. The
api documentation page is (painfully)

client disconnects after one song is played
I'm using the latest CVS source under Linux using a playlist
of ogg files. When I use a client to connect on the same
machine, there is not any disconnect (xmms and zinf). When
using a client on a Windows machine, I get mixed results.
Zinf on windows will play thru the current song but then stops
when the song is finished and does not play the next song
being streamed (see log below).

Windows ogg stream player?
Is there a good Ogg stream player for Windows? I can't seem to get latest
Winamp or zInf working from an Icecast server.

Zinf
I've tried to avoid windows whenever possible because it is so difficult
to understand and use, besides the bugs. I've been forced to it for
income tax, however.
Since so many customers of pan.zipcon.net use windows, I feel an obligation to
have a better acquaintence with it. I have not as yet tried any builds
just available binaries. I intend to write up instructions for novices in

Darkice CVS
Akos, have tried to use the CVS for the last few days (following instructions on sourceforge) but it keeps timing out.
Anything going on with the CVS Server?
Gary.

equalizer api
Somebody reported a bug against zinf that the equalizer did
not work with oggvorbis streams. Upon looking,
I noticed that while the mp3 decoder (xing) has an equalizer
interface to modify the decoding,
I could not find an equivalent for ogg.
Does the beast exist? Should it?

make -DNOCLEANDEPENDS distclean
every time I execute make -DNOCLEANDEPENDS distclean I get this error...
is it a freebsd bug, or is it something that just happened on my system?
I've tried deleting parts of ports and updating the structure with cvs but
the error always happens.

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
I must be doing something really stupid.
I've read the docs for icecast2 and ices2. Icecast2 is running fine; I can
get stats.xml and see that it is running.
When I run ices2, I get the following error in ices.log:

Looks good on server, no audio on client.
I'm trying to set up a live stream originating from line-in on my
soundcard.
I'm attempting to use Icecast2 and Ices2. I've been up and down the
configuration. I switched from the line-in method to using .ogg files
as source. These .ogg files play find independent of Ices2/Icecast2.
Ices2 and Icecast2 are running on the same Redhat 9 machine.
In both cases, Winamp appears to

Complete set of tools for Icecast
We are switching from Windows Media to Icecast. I want to get as close
to open source as possible.
That means that I need the following open-source items:
Player for Windows (not Winamp if possible - it's now owned by AOL.)
Player for Mac
Player for Linux
We will also be podcasting, so that means our encoding needs to be
compatible with the Apple iPod. Here's what it supports: MP3

Win32 player needed to put speex into widespread use
I am eager to begin using speex for downloadable audio on my church's
website - but first a good win32 player is needed given that windows has
a 94% domination...
Are there any plans for an up-to-date speex player for windows? (that
winamp plugin is hopelessly old) Building this into zinf (fmr. freeamp)
might be an option, but their code is one big mess.

I'm running Icecast 2.2.0 on a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp

Package resource changes
What with the impending release and a now fixed bug nagging me,
I''m testing puppet [2556] from subversion.
There have been changes in packages, I used to have
Package {
provider => "aptitude",
}
in my default.pp, but that doesn''t work anymore, and changing package to
type or removing the declaration doesn''t help.
How do package providers work now?

More Missing Pieces
Hi,
I am making good progress on understanding, documenting, and
re-implementing VP3. I have found some more deadwood in the decoder code
and I just wanted to verify that it really has no place:
* Version 3.3 tables: There are 2 sets of VLCs: One for v3.1 and one for
v3.3. The v3.1 set is always selected. Are the v3.3 tables in production,
or will they ever be?
* DC Search Points: VP3

Michael and Karl,
Thanks for your replies.
Sorry for confusing you with bad test info. The contents of
playlist.txtthat I referred to in my earlier email did not match the
log result I
specified. However, I had ran the test with both a full and relative path in
playlist.txt; "/home/john/Visitors.ogg" and "Visitors.ogg".
Got it working, however. Tried playing a different ogg

WinAmp3 & Icecast2 compatibility?
Hello folks
I'm having trouble playing ogg streams with WinAmp3. I run Icecast2 & Ices2
(both compiled from CVS about two weeks ago) on a Linux box, the files
being streamed were encoded with oggenc (from oggutils1.0, managed
80kbitrate...) The problem is that WinAmp3 won't actually play the .ogg
stream. When I give it the URL (http://myserver:8000/mount.ogg) it says

Yeah, I am familiar with this library, but as I know this is just for
sources. I am more interested in requirements clients have to meet, what
header response options are available, and
