osx and icecast
I've got two quick q's about icecast. If these two q's have already
been answered, could someone let me know when so I know where to look
in the archives?
Here's the siutation. Macamp has now gone bunk and I need to broadcast
my dj show from my home to a server that has NullSoft shoutcast. The
dj's normally use winamp's shoutcast plugin to broadcast to the

You can definitely relay a shoutcast server on an icecast server, and I'd
be surprised if you couldn't do it the other way.

Darkice and Icecast ..
I can create a section in darkice
with looks like
[file-0]
format = vorbis
bitrateMode = abr
bitrate = 48
fileName = /tmp/save.ogg
Is there a way to start/stop recording
without stopping all other streamer?
per example
- stop file recording
- save file to another name
- start recording ( regenerate the nessesary header for mp3 or ogg)
maybe an HUP?
Thanks.

DarkIce and archiving things
Hello,
After solving my previous problem with DarkIce, I have another question.
I'm streaming for a radio station, and we want to archive our shows. I'm
writing a little script that talks to our schedule database and "rotates"
mp3 files much the same way one might rotate syslog. My problem is,
DarkIce only lets you specify a /remote/ file to save, not a /local/ file.
I know I

DarkIce make problems
Hi everybody
I'm trying to encode the soundcard signal to serve it with IceCast, but
I'm having problems with making darkice-0.11. Anybody could help?
I'm compiling in a Solaris 6 OS with gcc 2.8.1, and I've installed lame
and Vorbis libraries.
This is my config phrase:
./configure --prefix=/aplicacions/icecast-1.3.12/darkice --with-lame
--with-vorbis

Yes I did, but it never connected properly.
This is the message:

Best way to handle multiple (6+) streams
I have a need to stream 6 or 8 different audio sources (radios), and am
seeking suggestions on the best way to do it. Although I'd like to stream
each separately, I could combine them to stereo streams and do 2 on each.
I'd like to know what the best hardware configuration would be to accomplish
this? Are there any multiple input sound cards that have been successfully
tested, or

DarkIce 0.6 and Lame 3.89: underlying sink error
Hey,
I've compiled DarkIce 0.6 dynamically linked to LAME 3.89. I'm running
Slackware 8 and using gcc 2.95.3. Running DarkIce yields the following
output:

Re: DarkIce 0.6 and Lame 3.89: underlying sink error
Samuel,
I had the same problem. I think it's because the port in darkice does not
match the port icecast or shoutcast is listening on. I thought it was 8000
but it was actually 8001. Check that.

Recommendations
Dan,
Thanks for the recommendation .. Installed Ices ... and it works like a
dream!
Starting to think the stability of the liveice-sn04 application is less than
I hoped.
Are there any recommendations for a live audio streamer application?
Regards Ron

Trying to stream to a Nanocaster/2.0 server
Hi all,
I'm attempting to stream audio to a live365.com server, more
specifically, it is a Nanocaster/2.0 server:
HTTP/1.0 200 OK
Server: Nanocaster/2.0
Content-Type: audio/mpeg
Cache-Control: no-cache
Pragma:no-cache
Connection: close
Content-Length: 44000000
I tried Liveice (XMMS plugin) and it wouldn't connect properly. I
tried ices, that too would not work. I even tried DarkIce

metadata update in the stream
This has come up earlier, but I don't remember a solution.
How do I update the metadata of the stream 'on the fly'? I'm thinking of
having a live stream (through darkice), with the title, author, etc.
metadata changed every once in a while to reflect the actual program.
How would I do that?
Should I insert such data into the mp3 / ogg voribs data somehow by

alternatives to liveice and darkice
are there any decent alternatives to live audio streaming [via. soundcard]
to darkice or liveice? after a few days fighting with darkice, i finally
managed to bring it up only to see that it takes 55% of my cpu just to
encode one 128kbps stream using libmp3lame. a similar 128kbps stream only
takes up 36% cpu using liveice. maybe i have something configured wrong, but
i was sortof expecting darkice

Did you try liveice?
I'm using it without problems. I didn't try another one, but I can
suggest you liveice. In my case I'm taking the output from an radio set
which is connected to a sound card.
I hope It help you.

I guess the main reason to have a protocol is that anyone can connect
using it?

Unfortunately I can't reproduce your memory leak reports. For example,
here is the line about my production darkice instance from top:

darkice problems (was Re: Propping up liveice)
I tried darkice 0.9 with icecast 1.3.12 and lame 3.91. I specified a 64k
stream and similar options to what works for us with liveice.
Streaming worked successfully, and I applaud darkice for being fairly
simple to build and configure. But the stream sounded like mud. It was
worse than our 16k mono RealAudio stream. I re-examined my config, I
rebuilt everything with gcc 2.96, then with
