Problem streaming to shoutcast w/ liveice
Maybe this is the wrong place to post, but...
When trying to start up liveice to a shoutcast server I'm getting the following
error, and then it dies and screws up the terminal emulation for my session.
Anyone seen this before?

Problem streaming to shoutcast w/ liveice
When you're streaming to a Shoutcast server w/ liveice (or any icecast
source tools), the port in liveice.cfg needs to be set to one port higher
than the Shoutcast server base port. Shoutcast uses the base port for
metadata & port+1 for the stream data.
If you exit liveice with ctrl-c (rather than the command it specifies) it
usually won't screw up your session settings.
Hope this

corrupted inboxes
Hi all,
Two users on our system have recently had trouble reading their
inbox, and it seems to be a result of their inbox getting corrupted.
In the most recent case, their Mailbox file (in /home/eric/Mailbox
in this case), has the following as the first line:
cnw.igmg--
Here's a piece of the logs below... if you look for "eric", there's

icecast stats
That is why I asked for a protocol :)
Why we have to go the extra mile of parsing the XML, that will contain
plenty of info we don't need !!
Anyway, thank you for the tips.

I don't mind using the password.
Just I am asking if there is some sort of protocol to retrieve the
information without playing with the xsl !!
I mean, to directly retrieve the wanted information, like
ME: Get MetaData
Server: Celin Dion - All comes back to me.

hanging imap... and users getting other users' emails!
Hi All,
We recently upgraded from UW (boy, starting to sound like a broken
record, eh?)...
Two problems:
1. Every two or three days users are unable to access their email
via IMAP. It seems that it's because dovecot-auth has hung. Has anyone
seen anything like this?
2. (the really serious one)... one of our users, "angie" has twice
had her Outlook download

Regardless of the xsl files.
Can't we communicate with the icecast server directly to retrieve the
information ??

ices 2.0.1 release
This is to announce version 2.0.1 of ices. It is a small update to
2.0.0 and is compatible to existing configurations.
The most user-visible part of this update is in the ALSA input driver,
which some people have reported as being a problem in some cases.
You can download the tar files from

Pocket Outlook
Hi all,
Another user posted the same thing a few months back... after contacting
them, they said they never got it working.
I'm unable to get Pocket Outlook, or FlexMail 2006 working on Dovecot
0.99.13. According to the logs it connects just fine. With Pocket
Outlook I'll see the headers for a few seconds, and then it clears and
shows nothing. With FlexMail, which is supposed to have

definitely open source, and a recommendation, since it does not *beep*
with the registry too much, has a clean, no bullshit interface, supports
a large number of codecs and is one of

'Jukebox' quality?
In light of the recent study
posted at slashdot, I've come to realize how little I know about this whole field.
So, I'm making an appeal to the audio experts here. I want 'jukebox' quality,
meaning ~0 artifacts while maintaining a good compression ratio, but not
quite 'archival' (read high bitrate) as I don't mind

Bingo. The stream drops at exactly midnight every night. Right on schedule. I
expected better, especially since I'm paying extra for a business-level DSL
connection.

Players halting
I've had a few reports from people that they are listening to our stream and getting
the same behavior -- it runs for 5-30 seconds, then stops. The problem is that they
are using various players. One person reported the issue from media player 9, I was
listening from media player 9 at the same time and it had been playing fine for an
hour. Her version was actually slightly newer than mine.
