Newbie question - on demand streaming?

In theory. In practice this is not true. Apache is far more robust
than any streaming server I've seen yet, and far more stable. Many of
the scaling issues have been addressed, and the drawbacks are minimal.
Streaming servers should be better for two reaosns. 1) they can be more

Still the big Icecast problem!
This is a player that I use on my site. It works well with Ogg and mp3.
I have tested it with windoze, Fedora, and Netscape/SunOS.

[Newbie Q] Relay to an Icecast server apparently not relaying?
Hi:
Let me see if I understand what you're doing. You're using winamp (or
whatever) to stream to a shoutcast server which pushes a relay on to
live365 (or live365 pulls from shoutcast, same deal really). Now you've
got a second winamp with samcast trying to pull shoutcast or live365 and
pass it to icecast. Is that right?
OK. Firstly, there is no source connecting to icecast. The

[Newbie Q] Relay to an Icecast server apparently not relaying?
The main stream is going to a Shoutcast server via Winamp. Works fine. A
Relay stream goes to Live365. Works fine.
I set up a Relay under SAM to point to the Icecast server running on another
box on the network. In SAMs Realy section it tells me that it's connected -
and Icecast seems to be telling me the same thing. Obviously I'm missing
something in the setup of IceCast - I think?

RE: Newbie question - unable to start guest OS on Fedora 8 <solved>
OK, I managed to get past this problem. There were two issues - I did not have peth0 configured correctly (as you can see, the ifconfig output does not show a peth0). That was resolved by fixing my settings in the network manager. The second issue was that I don''t have a static IP address, so I selected the option for DHCP on wireless during the guest host setup. I switched to static IP

Re-4: Newbie-Question
Aaah, now so far so good.
Next problem.
I started ices, using the default ices_playlist.xml (with a few minor changes).
Everything seems fine, but I can't connect to the server using winamp.

About latency, PCM and clients compliance
Hi all,
I am recently using icecast from server streaming, and even though I
succeeding setting everything up to have a radio broadcast, I still have
a few questions regarding icecast use.
First, latency. I have a setup on a LAN, where I can add audio files to
the stream, with a python script that automatically send the location of
the file to be played continuously. I wanted to measure the

Hmm, I made sure my icecast user has write access (by actually writing sth to the direcotry from the console) but no change there.
Still getting the same error-messages

Newbie question ... fallback mounts
David,
You email is confusing. The problem is that we've done everything
we can do get listed on Icecast Directory but we never get
listed. help?
This is our config file (below). The IceCast documentation only said to add the <directory> section which adds the yp url to the icecast server. So far as I'm aware from the documentation, anything after that should come from the

Hello!
After the Mailer-Daemon disaster, I try to make another time the
question.
First, sorry if my english is not very correct :-)
I'm a spanish student making a streaming project under Linux and I'd
like to use Vorbis format but I have a problem. Now I have installed
Icecast, LiveIce and the Lame encoder and they work... but in mp3
format.

Fedora Core 16 + Xen
Hey M A,
I was quite excited to see that with Fedora Core 16 I can just do:
''yum install xen'' and the hypervisor is installed.
Sadly the grub is not updated so nothing gets loaded. Should I report
bugs against this on bugzilla.redhat.com or just send them to your personally?
libvirt seems to have forgotten about Xen too.. but that is a different issue.
I played with running

Newbie-Question
Hi
I think I mangaed to install icecast and ices correctly, but I've got trouble starting it.
Starting icecast as root gives me
Should not start as root, use changeowner directives
Okay, so I changed the defaultvalues for changeowner to another user on this machine.
But now I get this error:
Changed userid to 501 (I thin thats okay)
changed groupid to 100 (ok, too)
FATAL: could not open error
