question about icecast & winamp & media player
Hi,
It's been pretty quiet as of late.
I have a question.
I have an icecast server housed at my provider with a very good internet
connection.
At work I'm using an ADSL line, which should be sufficient to listen to
the 128K streams I'm sending out.
However, when I listen with WinAmp, after about half an hour the stream
stutters and stops. I can restart it and listen again but it

Winamp icecast streaming broken?
Hi,
I have a few problems with Winamp 2.8. (I can't use or recommend Winamp3
because of all the various problems I've had with it. It seems that Ogg
streaming is broken on ports other than port 80. However, streaming in general
seems not to work correctly.
If I point the winamp client at an icecast or gnump3d server, it locates
the file or stream fine, buffers a bit, and starts

Ah, I see. I was indeed wondering if that could do what I was looking for,
but I couldn't find anything about the fileserve in the documentation other

Winamp plugin compile problems and fix/docs
The winamp plugin would not compile. I am using the Cygnus environment
(gcc, and a lot of other GNU utils)
on Windows NT.
_beginthread() is not found. That doesn't look like a function
application code should ever call directly.
I converted it to use CreateThread and it compiles and works.
Change this:
thread_handle = (HANDLE)_beginthread(DecodeThread,0, (void *)(&killDecod
eThread)

status.xsl url bug
> Thanks for the bugfix, I've committed this without the target="_blank" bit
Thanks.
After testing the usage of .pls instead of .m3u, couldnt get it to work
any ideas on a workaround?, m3u likes xmms but on winxp windows media likes
m3u and battles winamp
for ownership (typical windows).
Is this (.m3u) an internal mime type for icecast2?

winamp 5 release
I just downloaded & installed the final release and it works fine for me.
There is still the old problem with Winamp crashing when a vorbis stream is
interrupted or the internet connection is dodgy. This is an issue with
in_vorbis.dll v1.35 and Nullsoft don't appear to want to fix it.
I'm having to recommend my clients to use MP3 for streaming to supermarkets,
malls etc because of

[Flac-users] winamp plugins troubles
Give a hint please how to compile winamp plugins. After ./configure && make
I see no .dll and no .wac files in the source tree at all :(
What am I doing wrong? All the lib modules are compiled just as xmms plugin
but the winamp ones.. Documentation says nothing about that.

WinAMP directory listing? and other questions...
Hello,
I was wondering if Icecast servers are listed in the
WinAMP directory?
I would also like to know how to include the title of
the currently playing song in the Stream Title.
Does Icecast supports a "backup" file just as
Shoutcast has for when the source clients goes
offline?
I am using ices 0.4 and Icecast 2.2.0.
Thank you for your reply!

Move local profile to domain profile.
Ok, I got the W2K3 resource kit tool to move my local profile to my domain
profile (moveuser.exe). Didn't really work that cleanly.
Even though I used the /k (keep the local account), it didn't really. It
seemed to change the permissions on MOST of the files.
It didn't really move the files either. It's just pointed my profile (or
parts of it) to the existing folder. Can't

Winamp equalizer problems
I just wanted to know if anyone has noticed a difference between MP3 and OGG
encoded files when having the Winamp equalizer switched on? I seem to be
missing bass and the sound doesn't fill the room as much with OGG. With the EQ
turned off there is no discernable difference between both LAME and Vorbis
encoded files (both at an average of 192 kbps). Is this an error with the OGG
Winamp plugin?

Speex (source) client?
As you know, Winamp relies on the file extension to know what input
plugin to utilize for the audio decoding. The input plugin for .ogg
files (in_vorbis.dll) needs to understand the other ogg container
formats but it doesn't as it is a vorbis only decoder.
So the only solution is for Ogg Speex to have a different extension so
this can be appended to the mountpoint, and an input plugin

RE: Problems Listening in WinAmp 2.x, 5.x
I have set up icecast2 and ices2 and am playing ogg files from a playlist.
I can listen to stream in Linux using XMMS and Windows using FOOBAR2000.
The documentation indicates that WinAmp 2.x and 5.x will work, but need
to do tricks like
use mountname with ".ogg" extension. When I do that in WinAmp 2.x and
5.x tries to connect and nothing.
When in Admin in icecast, and view stats to

Winamp decoder plugin user-agent ident
Hi:
Have been testing the latest winamp plugins on my icecast2 stream
(http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/test.ogg <plug plug>) and I noticed that
in the field where the player/browser is listed in the log entries I see
Mozilla for the winamp plugin. Isn't this ummmm. wrong?

Metadata Swapping: How do they do it?
Think I answered my own question really.
The display in iTunes, for example, is swapping between what in
status.xsl would be Stream Title and Current Song.
If Song is updated like so:
http://admin:password@myserver.pulverradio.com:8000/admin/metadata?
mount=/high.mp3&mode=updinfo&song=ACDC+Back%20In%20Black
...then what exactly is the verbage to update StreamTitle?

ices2 "crashes" respectivley produces hissing
Hello list!
I've recently installed icecast2 and ices2 on my Debian Sarge box, to
stream some musik for my local network. Basically, it just runs fine,
using my soundcard / ALSA as audio source. Unfortunately, there is one
BIG problem: after a certain amount of time (varies, can be a few
minutes up to an hour or so), ices2 just "crashes", thus producing a
terrible noise on the

Bad stuttering with Winamp 2.80
The only thing that has changed is the winamp version number. My
radio streams are unaltered (to the point of the same process
connecting to two versions of Winamp).
What happens is that I begin to hear skips in the stream. Soon the
stream is full on stuttering, as if a square wave was modulating
the volume control.
Anyone else experience this?

Problem with Metatag update
Hi,
first of all, thank you all.
The new Icecast version works very well and the new features are great!
But I have some troubles with the metatag update via the admininterface.
Basically everything works fine, but only WinAmp is displaying the
titles correct. Windows Media Player isn't displaying them at all, XMMS
only displays them when the ID3 tag changes for about 3 seconds and

Alarm clock
does anyone know of or would be interesting in writing a program that is an
alarm clock for your computer that plays ogg vorbis files? i used to have
one that played mp3z before i heard about vorbis, but it got trashed
somewhere and i can't find it again because i forget what it was called.
but i would be interested to have one that plays ogg vorbis files, as right
now the only alarm clock i
