Icecast isn't really designed for this. You could mount each
file you want to host at a separate location and use individual
ices instances

content on demand HOWTO available
if you point most clients to an mp3 file the entire file must be downloaded
before it can start playing.
The .m3u and .pls files tell an mp3 client to start downloading and buffer
the mp3 so that it can play it while it is downloading. The biggest issue
with streaming this way is that if the file is encoded at a bitrate that is
higher than can be downloaded by (or served to) the client due to

on-demand static file security
Is there a way to protect on-demand mp3 files from being downloaded vs. just
played in a player?
If I put the link in a m3u or playlist file, someone can look there and get
the link to the file and then download it.
Thanks,
Fred

mp3-streaming client for icecast2
Hi!
I'm looking for a streaming client for the icecast2-server. It should
just feed mp3-files from a playlist to the icecast2-server. The old
shout doesn't work:
hout -P a -e 8000 -x -p /big/m3u/list.m3u
=>

about playlist
I have the icecast with some ices working perfectly in a Linux server,
mp3
files are reproduced with no problems, I'm quite satisfied with it but I
have a little doubt!
When users click the link at the HTML page, their default player (like
xmms,
winamp... etc) doesn't load.
That's how I've made the link:
<a href="http://my.server:8000/playlist.m3u">

That's quite likely, since some of the tracks have cyrillic ID3 tags.
What should I do to cirvumvent that?

Different play channeels
Hi
These are my config files ices and icecast. I am using ices 0.3 to play mp3.
I have a few questions:
1-)There is a way to say ices to play a list from a database tio create a
list into a table database.
2-)How can I play from a web page without open PLAY URL from winamp?
TIA

Icecast and Liveice
you need to create a .m3u file to launch the media player. In this file you should have
'protocol://url:port#/mountpoint'
ex:
in my 'ices.m3u' I have:
http://stream.goingcreative.net:8000/houze
<p>Once you are done point your browser to the .m3u file to launch your media player

Newbie question - on demand streaming?
Hi,
Just thinking about migrating from Shoutcast..... I have a question on how
to make Icecast behave as I have Shoutcast running, and provide "on demand"
streaming via my web server. In other words, currently I have a link on my
webserver such as thus:
http://myserver.org:9000/content/mytrack.pls
....and the user is connected to the Shoutcast server running on port 9000
and streamed

Though in theory it could be done (but neither icecast nor ices support it),
this wouldn't do what you want it to, since no _clients_ would support it.

Client Woes
My problem is not with the Icecast server, but with my user's ability
to get a decent client to play the streams. I have 3 Icecast streams
created using Ices, and the mountpoints have the mp3 extension.
My users and I have observed:
1) If Quick Time is brought up by the browser, it skips and chokes on
the stream.
2) If Windows Media is brought up by the browser, it will do either of

It is my understanding that you have the highest bitrate stored and you
just want to re-encode the files on the fly over a stream. You do this
rather than just store all the different enc rates.
Correct my assumption, but can't ices create playlists from perl scripts?
