MB soundcards and PCI soundcards
this is almost certainly a driver or device mapping issue. the
answer depends on whether you use alsa or oss.
if you're using oss: use alsa :)
if you're using alsa: are both cards correctly installed? what does
aplay -l say? what does lsmod | grep snd say?
have you specified the correct device to use? depending on your
installation, the onboard sound chip might be set to be the default

console sound
Hi,
I have a RH9 system with an onboard VIA sound chip. According to the
archives, VIA won't work for asterisk.
So, I disabled the VIA and I purchased a Creative Labs "Soundblaster PCI
128-Voice" soundcard ($13). This card is on the "approved" RedHat list.
However, the documentation inside the package says "VIBRA 128".
Anyhow, kudzu doesn't see then

FreeBSD - 2 soundcards?
Hello,
does anyone have experience of running two or more sound cards in a FreeBSD
machine? I'm using liveice/icecast to stream radio stations, and I'd like
to get several in one box.
I realise a BSD list would be a better place for this, but who else but
streaming folk would ever think about multiple sound cards?
After installing a second card, when I makedev snd1, it creates all the

USB handset wanted
Hello all asterisk users!
Question: Does anybody know about any good USB handset that would
understand SIP and Asterisk and will run with Linux?
I have found tons of them, but they are mainly only supported in Windows
environment.
I would like to set up new phone system in our company that would be
based on asterisk acting as PBX and SIP.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Any

liveice Question
Ok, is this possible: I want to have a 128k and a 24k stream of a
particualr audio program, plugged into the line in of my Ensoniq AudioPCI

or do I need two?
Thanks

noobie questions
Hello!
I'm extremely new at this so don't hurt me. I want to
stream CD content from my RedHat 9 box using icecast?
What is the best way to do this? I'm getting confused
with all the different pieces and configurations. Is
there a simple guide that discusses what I want to do?
thanks!

icecast + liveice won't play nicely
I have gotten icecast and live ice both up and
running, but I cannot get them to play nicely
together. I have the following in my configs:
icecast:

admin_password test
oper_password test

port 8001

liveice:

SERVER 192.168.1.2
PORT 8001
PASSWORD test
#ICY_LOGIN
X_AUDIOCAST_LOGIN

but when I run both of them using:
./icecast
./liveice

automating icecast2 startups
I have icecast2 running on several machines now and have gotten relaying
to work just fine. I've posted my instructions on how to do this to my
icecast docs site.
I have just a few more questions. Perhaps some one on this list has
already addressed these issues but has simply not posted these
elsewhere.
1) I'm looking for a startup script for launching the icecast2 icecast
ices binaries

Such a nice codec! Soundcard recommendations?
Wow! Ogg is sounding _really_ fine these days. Waaaay past my
ability to tell from CD on my crappy sound card, even at pretty low
bitrates. Which leads to my question: there's a huge difference
between what my sound card puts out and what my CD player can do
(Rotel RCD-950 to Classe' Audio Twenty preamp to Acurus A80 amp to
Epos ES-12 speakers, in case anyone cares). If my computer is

*Real* real time streaming (no delay/latency)?
Hello
Does anyone have experience with _real_ real time streaming - i.e. with
very little delay/latency?
I need to stream from point A to point B in near-CD quality via a 100
Mbit network. That is easily done using icecast. But here is the tricky bit:
I want as little delay in the signal as possibble - preferrably below 50ms!
I have made a test setup encoding on and serving from an 800 MHz

USB headsets?
Hi,
What USB headset would you recomend?
We have some laptop soundcards that are really bad and I would be glad
if you could share your experiences when changing to a USB headset
instead of using the built in soundcard in your computer.
Thanks!

TE405P vs. SoundCard problem
My Asterisk server believes that a Digium TE405P and sound are
incompatible. Basically, no matter what else I do to the machine it
terms of hardware, if the TE405P is installed, none of the
playback/background/etc commands work. MOH works fine.
So far, I have tried:
1) Seven different PCI soundcards with different chipsets. (Go go
Computer Junk Store!)
2) Disabling each and every device

On demand relay in icecast 2?
I'm using this on icecat 1.3.12 but it doesn't seem to work with icecast
2.0.0. The relay starts as soon as icecast is started and does not drop,
even if there are no clients. I've been over and over the docs and can't
figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Two soundcards. Use both with wine. Problem
Hi,
I have an integrated soundcard and I have just bought a new sound card to play UltraStar (open source karaoke) in the 2-players mode.
This game is know to work fine with wine and the last time (three years ago?) that I did this, it worked without special configuration. But it was an older version of wine, ubuntu and ultrastar and now it seems not to work.
The problem is that in the

liblame vs libmp3lame.... anyways, it don't work.
I took the latest installation of lame (both stable and beta) and
installed those with the default install variables. The last one I
compiled was lame3.87.
I then have the ices-0.0.1.beta5 and config'd the sources with
./configure --with-perl --with-lame and installed.
Yet, when I run ices -R, it complains with the following line when I run
the -R option:
