Bandwidth
Just a little question about icecast. I guess the streaming technique used is unicast. In that case, how is it that the bandwith used does not grow up as several listeners connect ? Or is the bandwith written in the icecast interface the bandwith used per listener ? Thank you for your answers. -- Ced <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives:

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "http log analysis tools out there on icecast log files"? <p>----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Smith To: "icecast@xiph.org" <icecast@xiph.org> Sent: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 12:28:06 +1000 Subject: Re: [icecast] format icecast.log to html "ronnie@mixsessions.com" <ronnie@mixsessions.com> said: > > I

for most stations that have this kind of listener capacity, they are getting bandwidth from AOL/Nullsoft. Nullsoft had (may still have) a policy of offering free bandwith to stations they hand-picked. They were tapping into the rather huge amount of bandwidth that AOL had, and thus could offer the kind of listener capacity you are seeing. Alternatively, many stations also operate on

format icecast.log to html
I am currently using icecast 1.3x. I would like to know if there is a way I can dump the contents of 'icecast.log' into html or maybe format variables to create an html doc. I looked through my icecast manual but I couldn't find any info or variables used for the log file. Ultimately what I want is to see who, when, and how long it takes to dl a static file. <p><p>---

HTML linking for Icecast Streams
This may sound silly and easy, and in fact I hope it is, but I'm having trouble setting up a web link to activate a stream. I have tried using formats I knew of, like the format used by Shoutcast (hots:port/shoutcast-playlist.pls? and host:port/listen?pls) but have had not luck. I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to do this, and I would really appreciate any help. Thanks. Rob

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi Reuben, I think I remember having the same issue when I first used icecast. I think from the best of my memory I swapped from using shout to IceS and this solved the issue. I could be wrong though my memory isn't too good and you may actually be experiencing something totally different than me, however I would say with your bandwidth a 128 stream shouldn't be a problem. Hope this is

bit/bytes <= broadcasting : the state of art ?
Hi, Our webradio (Let's Go Zik - http://www.letsgozik.com) works with donation and partenship. I think it's the only way to keep a webradio alive for the moment... We are making our radio in a associative way... It's quite hard to "find" listeners. Currently we are nearly broadcasting for 60 simultaneous listeners (and approx. 5000 differents listeners per months)...

Also, downscaling in case of degrading bandwith? Akos ---

Questions
I'm streaming a police scanner online. What would be the best encoding to use the ogg or mp3 or mp3 pro Right now i'm using MP3 16KBPS 11KHZ and it uses about 3.1KB/sec of bandwidth. Is there something I can use that has the same quality with lower bandwith. I've tried MP3pro using the lowest profile which I think was 20KBPS at 16KHZ and it uses 3.7KB/sec --- >8 ---- List

List of &quot;digipeaters&quot; (like live365) needed (aka BW providers).
I need a "complete" list of "reliable" services for repeating the signal of a station to the listeners (live radio). The situation is that a station will be doing live radio and has a little DSL connection and external bandwith will be required. I don't mind if it costs much or it is cheap, I now just want to join information to say my customer: You have all this coices,

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi, I am a newbie here. I just tried to set up mp3 streamer server on Redhat Linux 7.2, using icecast and shout. I then tried to connect to the server, from another machine and different LAN, using xmms. And the stream is so sluggish, it gets cuts off for every 2 seconds or so. Both LANs (the server and where I am connected from) are T1. My mp3 was all encoded in 128 KBps. I then asked someone

Adding more to stats.xml WAS:Source XML for status.xsl
/me grumbles about upcoming finals: I note that the mountpoint entry displays the current songs title and artist, but not the album. In the particular case of my station, album is often more important (recognizable) as there are a variety of pop/classical artists who do music for anime. So I'd like to add an album nature but am going to need a quick overview on how stats.xml is generated.
