No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)
Hello,
I've successfully installed Icecast 2.0.0 and Ices 2.0.0 on a Compaq
EvoN600C running Redhat 9. Everything runs quite well (no error loggued by
Icecast or Ices), the Ices stream is seen as a source by Icecast and friends
are able to listen to my radio (I see them as listeners in Icecast admin)...
the problem is that they ear only silence ! Looks like the streaming is OK
but Ices could

Newbie with problems on Debian Sarge
I have a Debian Sarge box that I am trying to get icecast2 and ices2 up and
running on. I'm having problems, but do not know where to look to identify the
problem.
I have my audio working with ALSA - microphone in plays through my audio out.
I'm running a basic configuration using the defaults provided, and the ALSA
example config file for ices.
When I try to connect to the server using

If it helps : my soundcard is a ES1988 Allegro-1, the module is "maestro3".
I use kmix as mixer, but there is nothing in it about a

where does linein writes to
I have tried broadcasting from both SuSE Linux and Slackware and with various programs being the last one Tim`s Mixice (which is a perl script that works along with a program called catdsp). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp.
Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card?
I have tried, as suggested in

ices stops connecting to server after 24hours
G'day Karl,
I've been using your multiple instance version ices-2.0-kh43 for live
streaming from my soundcard.
After about 24 hours, connection to my icecast server is lost - checking
my netstat I see that the connection is in "CLOSE_WAIT" status - this seems to
stop it from being able to reconnect. Here is some sample ices.log
output:

everything is running, no source
I do that from the local box...it asks me what application to use to open
it, i select xmms from within linux (same box the server is running) and it
takes FOR EVER to buffer only 32kb....took about 5 minutes to get up there
and when it did, i didn't hear anything. I'm sending it a .cda playing from
a cd on the computer next to it. could that be a problem?

Run the signal through a Compressor/Limiter before sending it to your
soundcard. I use Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro DSP9024. Very nice. If you
want to buy it look here:

Little Liveice Help
Hi,
I have one question, which is really stupid, but I should probably go ahead
and ask. I am trying to take a live feed and stream it. The problem is, it
works when I plug it into the 'Mic' input of my soundcard, but It doesnt
work when I plug it into the 'Line-In' input of the soundcard. I mean the
liveice doesnt stream anything in that case. I am usin 'NO_MIXER"

Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi,
I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's
installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS
system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then
everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils,
and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to
do it well, UNIX philosophy

multiple liveice sources
Hi,
I am trying to stream two different sources with two soundcards using
liveice and icecast, all from single Linux box. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible?
I tried creating two sets in the liveice config file where I specified
different devices. No erros but the latter source was streamed on both
mount points. Running two instances of liveice talking to one instance of
icecast failed.

Yes, I did : in fact, aumix from the command line behaves exactly like the
KMix GUI : when I change the PCM or Mic level with aumix, KMix shows the new
settings. But even with aumix set to the good values (PCM to 100%), ices get

Is this the problem? How do I bring these levels down in liveice?

no snd-hda-codec.ko in CentOS 5.3 is that ok ?
Hello,
When I was running CentOS 5.2 (and other Liuux distribution) on an Asus
W2J laptop, I never get sound.
I upgraded to CentOS 5.3.
Now the sound card is recognized and plays the test sounds.
I checked channels with alsamixer, mix, kamix ....
I still have no sound using aplay alsa command or whatever else audio
display.
Trying to check my configuration I discovered that the snd-hda-codec.ko
