[Fwd: Icecast2 and ices]
I got this offlist from someone on the list. This is abuse and should be punished. This didn't anwser my post and was directed to me off-list without invitation. All it was was a promotion. -----Forwarded Message----- From: Dave St John <groups@mediacast1.com> To: drew@drewb.com Subject: Icecast2 and ices Date: 22 Aug 2003 19:22:17 -0600 Hello Drew, saw your post on the xiph list

mp3-streaming client for icecast2
Hi! I'm looking for a streaming client for the icecast2-server. It should just feed mp3-files from a playlist to the icecast2-server. The old shout doesn't work: hout -P a -e 8000 -x -p /big/m3u/list.m3u => [3:21] Size: 3231748 Bitrate: 128000 (41432 bytes/dot) [Server error: [HTTP/1.0 401 Authentication Required ] WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="Icecast2 Server"

This seems to come up again and again. I'dve have thought the comments in the icecast config would be enough to avoid this, but apparently not. Anyone got any ideas? Geoff. --- >8 ----

RE: Two questions
I am happy using icecast/ices, but have two questions: 1. If I was using cron to schedule a switching of a playlist, can I do this without restarting icecast so that at a SPECIFIC TIME (let's say at exactly 3:00 pm) a new song can be played without interupting the user listening to the broadcast. 2. Is there a setting when the user first connects to play a *welcome* file (i.e. about the

ices 0.4 can't find playlists...
Hello, I've compiled and successfully run icecast2 with ices on a single stream. But I'm running into problems running multiple streams from ices to icecast... I used the <playlist>...</playlist> syntax to run a single stream, but the docs on icecast.org seem to suggest using the <input>...</input> syntax instead. I've actually tried it both ways, with

libshout1-based mp3 streaming to icecast2
According to what I've read on this mailing list, it should be possible to stream MP3 data to icecast2 using ices-0.2.3, which I assume also should be the case for any other streaming client based on libshout1. So I decided to test this out to see if we really could dispense with icecast1 altogether on the server I help administer. My results were not promising, to say the least. I wiped out

Icecast/ices problem
Thanks for the suggestion. It turns out that debug for ices told me nothing but debug for icecast 2.2.0 showed that it was terminating the source at the same place in the playlist, apparently due to a lack of trailing metadata in one particular file -- icecast saw it as end of stream. After checking code updates on the TRAC system, I installed the kh branch of icecast (kh13) and this seems

Streaming MP3 and OGG with one Ices
Hello. I understand that ices 0.3 is capable of streaming mp3 to an Icecast 2 server, and that ices 2 is capable of streaming ogg to an Icecast 2 server, but what I'm really after is a single version of ices that can stream mp3 and ogg to an Icecast 2 server. Does such a thing exist? Currently 90% of my audio files are mp3, but I am starting to use ogg instead for new files. However as it

ices: forcing an immediate reread of the playlist
Hi all, I'm currently trying to set up ices2 with icecast2 along with otto, a jukebox interface written in perl. Otto allows the user to kill a song via the web interface, which in turn kills all running instances of ices, rewrites the playlist and launches ices. This has the bad side effect of terminating the client's connection to icecast and leaving a bunch of ices

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
I must be doing something really stupid. I've read the docs for icecast2 and ices2. Icecast2 is running fine; I can get stats.xml and see that it is running. When I run ices2, I get the following error in ices.log: ...
