ices & savefile
Thanks Karl, I will give it a try.
Do I have to install your modified libshout or isn't it required if I am
live streaming?
Cheers,
Matt

ices stops connecting to server after 24hours
G'day Karl,
I've been using your multiple instance version ices-2.0-kh43 for live
streaming from my soundcard.
After about 24 hours, connection to my icecast server is lost - checking
my netstat I see that the connection is in "CLOSE_WAIT" status - this seems to
stop it from being able to reconnect. Here is some sample ices.log
output:

file only storing with ices 2 ?
Hi !
my question is how to totally switch off the Ices2
logging into the Icecast server ?
I wan't to use ices only to save archives (24h/d),
without any streaming, but when I try start Ices, see:
[2005-01-19 17:27:05] EROR stream/ices_instance_stream
Failed initial connect to localhost:8000 (Couldn't
connect: Connection refused)
and Ices clears buffers etc. and shuts itself down :-(

ices & savefile
Got it all compiled nicely.. I called it ices2 so I can keep using my
existing ices executable as well..
Tried getting it up and running but it seems to be having trouble
connecting to my soundcard.. sample from ices.log

dumping to multiple files
Hello.
I intend to make a live streaming of a quite long multi-artist concert
( 8h or so). I also would like to dump the concert to a file(s).
For several reasons I would prefer to dump performance of every artist
to seperate file. Is it possible to somehow tell ices2 to switch dumping
from one file to another ( without interrupting a transmission of course ) ?
Or maybe

Trouble getting Ices/Icecast2 to stream
I'm rather new to this. I just set up Icecast and Ices using source from
CVS downloaded yesterday (3-20-2003). The box is running RedHat 8.0 with
all the required RPMs to compile. Here's my trouble:
I have Ices running in live mode, with it connecting correctly to the
Icecast server on port 8000 (which is only bound to 127.0.0.1). I'm
using Winamp on the client end connecting to port

Is something wrong with ices 2.0-kh60a?
Hiya Karl (and everybody else),
I noticed today that ices 2.0-kh60a came out last January, and opted to
give it a try. Unfortunately, it just wouldn't work at all, so I had to
back down to 2.0-kh60.
What I get in my log is this:
[2006-04-21 21:16:18] DBUG om_shout/check_shout_connected Time we started stream on ice.imars.net:8000/cigr.ogg

<savefile> directive for Icecast2?
Hi all,
Hope you can advise.
I am aware you can use the <savefile> feature of IceS2 to save a copy of
live streams. I have several sources for my Icecast server that are remote
and which I do not have access to the hard drive. Is there any way to save a
copy of the stream at the Icecast Server rather than the IceS2 source?
If it can't be done by the server itself, I know there are

OK, I think I'm making some progress.
Got the ogg libraries compiled and installed
Got Ices compiled and installed (no more error - yay!)
Now, I'm trying to get Ices running in live

Ices issues
Hi:
I ran a live test broadcast today and noticed a couple of things that
concerned me. Now, I'll admit I was pushing my P2/266 pretty hard, but it
kept things going so I'm guessing that it's not unreasonable for me to
expect this to work.
I was sending two streams encoded from the sound card, one at 22khz mono
quality -1 and the other at 44.1 stereo quality 0. I was also saving

... and I can confirm this. No gaps were perceivable decoding in ogg123.
However, an interesting effect can be had if all the parts have the same
serial number. You get a bump

rfc: bring ices-kh60 into mainline asap
hi everyone!
currently, karl's branch of ices has a number of interesting features
that the ices release does not:
* jack support (very important for a number of users i know, and
generally cool in terms of interoperability)
* really nice metadata updates and on-the-fly savefile changes
* runner threads for load distribution on smp boxen
* on-the-fly switching of input sources (useful

Source deconnection bug in icecast?
Hello,
Yesterday evening, I installed icecast kh13 with your latest libshout.
We have to wait 1, 2 or three days to see what is happening...
Yes, the samplerate 19404 is exactly what I asked ices to do... Just a compromise between bitrate and samplerate to have a better sound quality.
Regarding to that, I didn't found the option to set the ouput rate in ices kh47, and also I was wondering how

ices compile problems (was: libshout compile problems)
Hi,
orry but when I said that I have the same problems when trying to
compile libshout, i was wrong.
My libshout compiles successfully but I have these problems when trying
to compile ices2.
after running autogen.sh I get the following response:

I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish
to pass any to it, please specify them on the

Problems with Ices
I am having problems getting Ices to work with ALSA. If I use arecord
(arecord -D plughw:0,0 output.wav) I can record the input from my
microphone into a file. The playback works perfectly. However, if I use
Ices with the same values I hear nothing on the receiving end of my
broadcast (although I can connect to it). In order to do a further test,
I setup a <savefile> tag in my

Questions
Hi:
I've read that there is experimental speex and theora support in a
development branch of icecast somewhere. Speex would be ideal for this
kind of thing.

Trouble getting Ices/Icecast2 to stream
Mike / Karl -
I've tried two different ways of setting up the "stream". In one URL, I
named the file directly (http://foo.bar.org:8001/stream.ogg), and in the
second, I made a stream.m3u file containing the afore mentioned http
statement. Neither worked in Winamp. I had downloaded version 3 of
WinAmp, so I uninstalled that, and went out and got the JOrbis (Java)
player and the

It's a question of getting the compiler environment setup to do the port. Much
of libshout and ices2 are ready but, certain things like live input are different
from whats in windows.
