I think what they're trying to do here is not only block non-SCDNAS
servers, but also as many non-Shoutcast sources as they can. Think about
it - if you're streaming MP3Pro without

Brainstorming Idea:
Possibly add an xml api to the current yp logic,
that way 3rd party providers could parse the stations in the yp off
icecast.org in there media players.
of course a plugin for winamp would be the first obvious choice(since the
already have there own media library but uses yp.shoutcast.com), but others
would follow.
I remember seeing something previously at dir.xiph.org but

Ogg doesn't measure up?!
Nullsoft Streaming Video. Basically a video container format. Can be used
for files or streaming. Though it can use any audio video formats
internally currently it is just VP3/MP3 (or VP5/MP3, but that's internal
only and not publicly available). Basically video for the next version of
SHOUTcast.

NSV?
so when the source client logs in, it lies to icecast, saying it's an
mp3 stream? (as icecast won't accept anything else, but mp3 or ogg
vorbis...)

Theora vs. Nullsoft NSV
How does the Theora project differ from Nullsofts NSV project?
Other than the obvious fact they use mp3....

range support / stream seeking not supported by Winamp 5 and WMP 10?
Hi,
I was just checking out icecast-2.2.0. You guys have done a great job yet
again!
I was interested in the range support / stream seeking on static files,
since that would be a really useful feature for my clients.
Range support / stream seeking seems to work with RealPlayer v10, but not
with Winamp 5 or Windows Media Player 10.
Does anyone else have this experience? Is there a way to make it

NSV Problems
For some reason using the 2.3.0 Version I can no longer stream Nullsoft Video.
I have the correct tags in the config file but for some reason the server will not accept the connection from the encoder.
I started up shoutcast DSP and it streams fine so I know it's not the encoder itself.
Anyone else seeing this or can tell me how to fix it?

Icecast 2.2.0 RC1 Announcement
Just wanted to let everyone know that we are prepping for a 2.2.0
release of icecast. Just as before, we are doing Release candidates
first, and if no bugs are reported, these will become the official

What's the purpose of this NSV protocol?
Is it some sort of container protocol

Encoders
Hi There,
The discussion about speex triggered the following question:
Is there a way to use other encoders, to stream with icecast / oddcast.
Is there an format of witch the encoder shoul be standarized to (ACM or
something like that), if so would it be possible to use open license
encoders and commercail encoders with this. like FHG mp3, mp3pro, speex and
so on.

Live Ogg Vorbis/Theora Streaming Software
Hi,
Its been a while since I posted to this list.
I have finished an application to stream Live Ogg Vorbis/Theora to file or
Icecast server for Windows users.
For example, you can stream your webcam/radio station with it. Maybe this
will help make more Theora streams available as there seems to be very
little Windows support.
Some features are as follows:

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
Just checked using RealPlayer Windows 10.5 latest release.
This also glitches.
This is more than likely due to the differences in metadata between
SHOUTcast and Icecast2.
This is exactly the reason I was asking for the exact differences between
the protocols so I can help get these things fixed with the player folks.
Real is not the only player with this problem.
I may be in the AAC/aacPlus camp,

Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I was under the impression that Tobias's Direct Show filters would allow
Windows Media player to play Ogg Vorbis streams, but after testing it
here, apparently it doesn't. Does anyone know if there is anyway of
making WMP play vorbis streams?
The company I'm involved with who will be creating thousands of internet
stations will most likely need WMP to play the streams, since it is
