Trouble getting Ices/Icecast2 to stream
Mike / Karl -
I've tried two different ways of setting up the "stream". In one URL, I
named the file directly (http://foo.bar.org:8001/stream.ogg), and in the
second, I made a stream.m3u file containing the afore mentioned http
statement. Neither worked in Winamp. I had downloaded version 3 of
WinAmp, so I uninstalled that, and went out and got the JOrbis (Java)
player and the

Looks good on server, no audio on client.
I'm trying to set up a live stream originating from line-in on my
soundcard.
I'm attempting to use Icecast2 and Ices2. I've been up and down the
configuration. I switched from the line-in method to using .ogg files
as source. These .ogg files play find independent of Ices2/Icecast2.
Ices2 and Icecast2 are running on the same Redhat 9 machine.
In both cases, Winamp appears to

Icecast2 / Ogg / oddcastDSP / Winamp2 Constant Prebuffering
Noticing a strange issue, i'm not sure where this lies. I'm using
oddcastDSP to stream Ogg to icecast2, which seems to be working ok, but
using winamp (v2) to stream from icecast, winamp is constantly
prebuffering, displaying a length of 0:01. Is this a known bug in either
Winamp or icecast, or a configuration issue perhaps? I have a feeling
this is Winamp, but I was wondering if anyone

Icecast2 / Ogg / oddcastDSP / Winamp2 Constant Prebuffering
Hrm, yes it does sound like a bug in WinAmp. Even if it does prebuffer, the
length counter should be going beyond 0:01 since you've obviously been
listening longer than that after the first second. =P (I don't think the
counter resets after buffering, but I could be wrong.)
Can you see if you can duplicate it by getting someone else to tune in to the
'cast with WinAmp?

Icecast2 / Ogg / oddcastDSP / Winamp2 Constant Prebuffering
Sounds like WinAmp isn't storing a large enough buffer, or Icecast isn't
putting a long enough buffer between what it recieves from Oddcast & what it
transmits to clients.
I've never had such a problem, though. Could be your connection?

icecast2, ogg, mp3, etc
Hi,
Just wanted to clarify, can icecast2 not read OR broadcast any mp3, or
can it just not broadcast mp3 (but still play from a playlist)? I know the
quality would be dropped if it had to reencode them though.
And what's up with that POS Winamp3, it doesn't even play gg streams?!?
I use xmms, but we have winamp3 on a demo computer, it just sits and keeps
prebuffering. I need something

Winamp3 is broken according to some posts here. Try Winamp 2.91 or the
latest XMMS. Of course, XMMS requires the xmms-mp3 libraries.
Try that and see if it helps.

solved: building icecast2 on OpenBSD
Icecast2 compiles on OpenBSD 3.2 with the steps outlined by Moritz (thanks for
that). I'm running into problems streaming ogg files from the fileserve
directory, although serving mp3 files from the same directory happens without a
hitch...again, both work fine on a Debian system. I'll try building the ogg and
vorbis libraries from source to see if that fixes anything (they are

WinAmp3 & Icecast2 compatibility?
Hello folks
I'm having trouble playing ogg streams with WinAmp3. I run Icecast2 & Ices2
(both compiled from CVS about two weeks ago) on a Linux box, the files
being streamed were encoded with oggenc (from oggutils1.0, managed
80kbitrate...) The problem is that WinAmp3 won't actually play the .ogg
stream. When I give it the URL (http://myserver:8000/mount.ogg) it says

Problems with Ices
I am having problems getting Ices to work with ALSA. If I use arecord
(arecord -D plughw:0,0 output.wav) I can record the input from my
microphone into a file. The playback works perfectly. However, if I use
Ices with the same values I hear nothing on the receiving end of my
broadcast (although I can connect to it). In order to do a further test,
I setup a <savefile> tag in my

client not connecting to server
I'm trying to connect to my icecast2 server with winamp with
http:host:8000/test.ogg and I get the following error on the server
console: DEBUG: client coming in

I'm wondering if the playlist.txt file is in the wrong place. It's in
/root/ and has absolute pathnames to the ogg files in my home
directory /home/user/ogg/

noobie questions
Hello!
I'm extremely new at this so don't hurt me. I want to
stream CD content from my RedHat 9 box using icecast?
What is the best way to do this? I'm getting confused
with all the different pieces and configurations. Is
there a simple guide that discusses what I want to do?
thanks!

AW: ices question
hi ,
my guess is you connect all of the clients to the same mount point,
causing icecast to interleave the data. Which is obviously not a good
thing. If this is the case, then you should get the errors as soon as you
start the second stream.
i start any stream via sh-skript like :
./ices -B -d Radiocity -F /music/playlists/alternative.pls -m
/alternative -g Alternative -h localhost -n

ices & savefile
Apologies for asking so many questions - hope this isn't in the FAQ
somewhere!?
I would like to use the <savefile> option in ices but am wondering how to
specify a unique filename to be created each time ices is executed so the
previous savefile is not overwritten?
eg, is there a way to specify:
<savefile>mystream-%time-%date.ogg</savefile>
that would for example create a

automating icecast2 startups
I have icecast2 running on several machines now and have gotten relaying
to work just fine. I've posted my instructions on how to do this to my
icecast docs site.
I have just a few more questions. Perhaps some one on this list has
already addressed these issues but has simply not posted these
elsewhere.
1) I'm looking for a startup script for launching the icecast2 icecast
ices binaries

Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I was under the impression that Tobias's Direct Show filters would allow
Windows Media player to play Ogg Vorbis streams, but after testing it
here, apparently it doesn't. Does anyone know if there is anyway of
making WMP play vorbis streams?
The company I'm involved with who will be creating thousands of internet
stations will most likely need WMP to play the streams, since it is

file only storing with ices 2 ?
Hi !
my question is how to totally switch off the Ices2
logging into the Icecast server ?
I wan't to use ices only to save archives (24h/d),
without any streaming, but when I try start Ices, see:
[2005-01-19 17:27:05] EROR stream/ices_instance_stream
Failed initial connect to localhost:8000 (Couldn't
connect: Connection refused)
and Ices clears buffers etc. and shuts itself down :-(
