This is great!
But I have a few wonderings:
I'm suprised that the HTTP/GET method of notifying YP servers is still
preferred. According to this protocol, we're still limited to essentially
title/author, listeners, etc. In other words, we're

help with random numbers and Rmpi
Dear People,
This may not be the right place to ask a question about Rmpi, but I don't
know of a better one.
I am trying to get a simple program working using Rmpi with the model of 1
R master and n C slaves. What I am trying to do is have each of the C
slaves generate a random number from U[0,1], and then have the master
collect all n numbers as a vector and output it. However even doing

[PATCH] Support for Ambisonics
Hi Drew,
I think the libopusenc patch is better, but there's still a few issues left:
1) The static MAX_PACKET_BUFFER_SIZE value is still problematic because
if you link libopusenc with a new version of libopus that supports
higher order projection or just more projection channels for order 3,
then you will overflow the buffer. I think what you'd want is a
_ope_opus_header_get_size() call

[PATCH] Support for Ambisonics
Just to confirm, I would use opeint_* for all the
OpusGenericEncoder-related functions?

[PATCH] Support for Ambisonics
Hi Drew,
Some comments on the libopusenc patch:
+ int _oge_use_projection(int channel_mapping);
These functions are part of libopusenc, so I'd expect them to have an
ope prefix like the other functions in the libopusenc library.
+ if (_oge_use_projection(h->channel_mapping))
+ {
+ len=27+(h->channels*(h->nb_streams+h->nb_coupled)*2);
+ }

deprecation warning in Rails 3 about Base.named_scope
I recently upgraded to Rails 3, and this error has come up
ubiquitously:
DEPRECATION WARNING: Base.named_scope has been deprecated, please use
Base.scope instead.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Or should I just wait for
something?
There''s actually no place in my application where the code
"Base.named_scope" exists, so I assume the problem is inherent in gems

Shoulda issue: no more "should have_instance_methods" ?
I''m using Shoulda.
After copying the code here....
.... http://joshuaclayton.github.com/code/2009/07/14/should-act-as-list.html....
into my test_helper file so I can test acts_as_list, I came across
issues. For one I realized I had to get rid of the _ between the
"should" and "have" in past cases, but here, I get this error when I
run my unit test:

Faststart: Second Try
Hi Mike,
find the patch for faststart that takes in account different logical
streams. I tried with ices' playlist, it works just fine [*].
I could be still further optimised, but it will make the code less clear
(for example, I could check for has_paredata before checking for
serailno, which saves a couple of calls and also will avoid any change in
format_mp3.[ch]).

Difference between rake test:units and individually running ruby -I test test/unit/something_test.rb ?
Here''s my issue: running ruby -I test test/unit/something_test.rb for
each of my unit tests works perfectly.
However, running rake test:units brings errors in all of them - some
object becomes nil for some reason.
Why might this be happening?
Specifics: the object that is successfully not nil when I run the unit
tests one-by-one but becomes nil when I do rake test:units is defined

[PATCH] Support for Ambisonics
Hello all,
Sorry for the delay (got really sick last week).
Attached are updated patches for libopus, libopusenc, opusfile and
opus-tools.
Note that the patches for libopusenc, opusfile and opus-tools are dependent
on the patch for libopus.
Please let me know if you have any additional followup comments or
questions.
Cheers,
Drew

Testomg: doing def test_blah or test "blah" do
Hey, I''m wondering about the distinction between writing test methods
like
1.
def test_something_to_test
end
and like
2.
test "something to test" do
end
It seems like there''s no difference. I did notice, however, that #2
can''t be done in a class that extends Test::Unit::TestCase, while it can
be done in one that extends ActionController::TestCase. I also

Having trouble testing :( "superclass mismatch" and can't load "test_helper"
I''m having trouble testing my Rails 3 application. Unit testing
doesn''t work. If I try ruby article_test.rb directly, I get a "no
such file to load" error, and if I try rake test:units or ruby unit/
article_test.rb I get this odd "superclass mismatch for class
ArticlesController" error!
I''m hoping I can get this settled...

A bit off-topic question: has anyone any experiences with the relaying
service that live365.com has? what kind of stream(s) do they relay? what
is the protocol they use?

icecast2yp server problem...
hi oddsock, hi everyone!
i have set up an icecast2yp, took a while to get it to compile, but now
it works. the only problem is that the hostnames have all dots replaced
with dashes in the generated playlists
james sheldon has reported this problem here a year ago
(http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/2004-March/006729.html), but
nobody responded, so i bring it up again.
