Using win2k non-pdc as password server
Hi, I'm trying to get Samba on a Linux box to work. Authentication via user level worked fine, but what I really want is it to take user authentication from a win2k box, which is our "primary local server". The win2k box is not a pdc, (the real pdc is 2000km away, close to the polar circle), but according to the docs it doesn't have to be. So in smb.conf I put: security =

Samba on Tru64 UNIX Cluster
Hi list, I am planning to deploy samba 2.2.6 on a two-node cluster running Tru64 UNIX 5.1A. Each node will be running an instance of samba providing different services, but I want the locks directory to be shared between them so that if one node goes down, the other can take over its services and still have correct information about open files etc. My question: Can the tdb's handle being

icecast + liveice won't play nicely
I have gotten icecast and live ice both up and running, but I cannot get them to play nicely together. printing probs and samba update
Hi, I have still a 2.2.5 Samba PDC running and get from time to time printing problems. Sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes when trying to print even simple documents, but then most of the time printing starts immediately. I could not figure out why or when this is happening. It has nothing to do with a long printer queue or an (over)loaded server. Perhaps someone else had these problems too? I

NEWBIE QUESTION - ERROR [BAD PASSWORD]
The Debian Icecast server is compiled with password crypt support, which means you can't put the password in in cleartext. You will have to apt-get install makepasswd and do something like echo "password" > passwd.tmp makepassword --crypt --clearfrom=passwd.tmp and paste the encrypted password in to your icecast.conf file. Hope this helps.

ogg vorbis and CD burning software
Has anone started a petition or email campaign to make Ahead Software and Roxio aware of the need to be able to use their software to burn oggs? I currently use Ashampoo BurnYa! Audio CD for this, but I noticed that even if you have the box checked that tells it to burn "Disk At Once," it still puts 2-second pauses between tracks on a live CD or between tracks that connect.

Trust domain
Hi, All, I upgraded my samba to 2.2.4 recently. There is one question about trusted domain. If I set 'winbind use default domain' to yes, supposed the domain name is D1, a trusted domain D2, when I run wbinfo -u, what I should I get? I remembered I will get users like D1\UserOnD1 ..... D2\UserOnD2 ... in previous version. Thanks in advance, Juer

Dos To Unix?
If we drag a file from a Windows directory - say autoexec.bat and drop it onto a samba mapped Unix drive, when we then go to the Unix box and vi the file all the lines end in the DOS EOL character (^M) is there any option/configuration in samba to make it convert DOS text files to UNIX format? We use some Samba servers running SuSE 7.1 and samba 2.2.1a. These servers are sometimes very slow while delivering data over the network. It is like a short sleep-mode followed by a wake up. We use Win 95, 98 and 98SE Clients. Any ideas? Thanks from germany, Andre Klocke -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

How to generate a list of lists recursively (for bayesm)
Dear all, I need to generate a list of lists as required by the bayesm-package. This means in my application that I have to generate a list which consists of 2000 elements, which are lists themselves: list(list(y1,X1),...,list(y2000,X2000)). The y are vectors and the X are matrices of different dimensions. I tried to solve this problem iteratively by the following code, but received an error
