stream sounds like poo for no apparent reason
This does sound like a grounding problem. My (limited) understanding is that when you have 2 audio components plugged in to different outlets, there can be a voltage differential between the ground on the 2 devices, which will create an electrical flow between the 2 components, which is the source of the hum. I have had this problem before and solved with a ground loop isolator, (from Radio Shack)

here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are

Downsampling mp3 on-demand streams
Hello, We're streaming radio programs at both 128kbsp and 32kbps, but only archiving the 128kbps stream to save storage space. I'd like to give users a similar choice of bitrates when they request an archived stream (served through icecast's /file/ functionality). Is there a way to change the bitrate on the fly, or do I really need to save archive both bitrates? Thanks for the

De hecho, dos de los principios de diseño de R son: 1) Todo lo que existe es un objeto. 2) Todo lo que sucede es una llamada a una función. Un saludo, Carlos J. getent passwd/getent passwd username inconsistencies
I've came across what appears to be a bug, but I wanted to get some feedback on the list before reporting it to make sure I'm not doing something stupid. I'm using 3.2.7. I see that when I do "getent passwd", I get an entry like this: testuser:*:1000:20:Test User:/home/poo/testuser:/bin/bash But when I do "getent passwd testuser", I get this:

Re: DarkIce 0.6 and Lame 3.89: underlying sink error
Samuel, I had the same problem. I think it's because the port in darkice does not match the port icecast or shoutcast is listening on. I thought it was 8000 but it was actually 8001. Check that. [Flac-users] CD archiving
I have been following flac development for some time now, but with the release of 1.0.4 I thought I would finally start the task of encoding my entire cd collection into flac format. After looking through the list archives and the webpage I still have a few unanswered questions. 1. What is the best method tagging method to use? Josh mentioned that id3v1 was preferred over id3v2 since it

'Click to Dial'
Oooo I think I am gonna poo my pants. Using the microbrowser on a Polycom 601, I was able to get it to execute a cgi script upon selection of an item. The cgi script used Net::Telnet connect to the manager interface on another Asterisk system, call the user back at their phone and then bridge the call to the number associated with the microbrowser menu option. That's pretty schweet. :)

Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times
Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times. This is typical of the New York Times. Because they get to coast on the prestige and reputation of their brand , they have a history of just this sort of journalistic sloppiness. Whether it's the author or the editor at fault doesn't really matter, they do this screw-up all the time. Look, if you write an article on the first page of

Ubuntu, Exim, deliver: permissions/setgid problem
Hello all, I have a little problem. I'm trying to set up Dovecot deliver (1.0 beta 3) as the LDA for Exim4 on Ubuntu 6.06 with MBOX, and I'm running into permissions problems. Exim typically wants to run pipes as the user to whom the mail is being delivered (as per the "check_local_user"). deliver needs access to the auth socket and needs to be able to create files in /var/mail.
