Applying dynamic compression to live audio

Basically, it was pointed out on the linux audio dev (LAD) mailing list that numerous programs were using plugin architectures and all were different. So they fleshed out a plugin API and the rest, as they say,

Quite possible, though I'm only using 56kbps 22khz stereo anyway so that's not such a big deal. I

icecast sound compressor
Hi, I searched the Internet to find an answers, but I didn't find anything useful, so I'm turning to you, maybe someone has the answer. I want to make a realtime broadcast from a Linux box. The source is the soundcard's line-in, and it sends the stream to an Icecast server. I would like to have realtime compressor/limiter functionalities on this Linux box, so the outgoing signal

automatic gain control
>Fromwhat you describe, your comp/limiter can't possibly be working correctly. It should be the last unit in line before the sound card, and needs to be adjusted properly. You also need to balance the levels on your mixing board (so that the correc t level comes at predictable place on the slider). It might be worthwhile to find someone with some sound-mixing or radio engineering experience

I use Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro DSP9024. Very nice. If you want to buy it look here:

Gain control
How are people doing gain control, out of curiosity? I know boxes exist (anyone have names and mfrs?) that ride the gain for big radio stations, ensuring that there is no distortion and raising the volume of songs recorded at a lower volume. I'd probably buy one if I knew what to buy. ------ Dave Hayes - Consultant - Altadena CA, USA - dave@jetcafe.org Now Playing at:

a dedicated audio encoder
Hi, In our design of Icecast2, our multiple sources will stream their high quality audio via a dedicated audio encoder (not a computer): Live audio > L+R microphone > pre amplifier > audio encoder > Icecast2 VPS So far I have a shortlist of 4 possible brands of audio encoders: Sonifex PS-SEND, Barix Instreamer, Bric-Link, Outcaster OC100. All have their pro's and cons.

creating live mp3-stream

[Re: icecast2 ??]
Dear list, I agree with the main points that have been stated here lately -- icecast2 appears not ready for prime time (because of lack of web presence / tarball and rpm downloads / some documentation on line) and icecast1 community needs a support forum if this list no longer is one. It would be so simple to spell out the statuses on www.icecast.org -- Status of icecast1, status of

problems setting the sample rate with icecast2 and darkice
At present my stream is at 11.025 kHz and I want it to be at 44.1 kHz. Input is coming from line-in on my sound blaster card under linux (RH 9) using the sb driver. I presume that it is icecast that sets the sample rate on the dsp in the card, though when I change the settings in icecast.xml and darkice.cfg as show below the stream becomes choppy; or rather the sampling doesn't seem to

Stream with Ices2 sound very metallic
I'm not sure this it the problem, because whatever the encoding if (managed or not), the problem is there. To listen to the problem: http://www.stalig.com/radio_ices.ogg The ices stream in a file (a few seconds) http://www.stalig.com/radiofree.ogg The darkice stream in a file (a few seconds) Looking at the content of the ogg files, we can see there are using the same vorbis lib even if i

Icecast1: "Client din't data fast enough"
Hallo, 06.10.02 I'm using Icecast1 with darkice on the same mashine, starting darkice by cron sending 2 mp3-Streams to the Icecast server and dumping the two mp3 stream and an an other vorbis into files (may later I set up icecast2) in the static dir of the Icecast. Locally connecting to the streams works well even works file streaming of the
