CPU Utilization Weirdness
Will give it a try, although if this works, kinda defeats the purpose :)
Brendan, do you know why updating the directory causes this kind of problem?

How do you escape characters within the metadata block
When "Icy-MetaData: 1" is in the HTTP request to the server, that indicates that the client wants to receive meta data inlined with the mp3 data stream. The metadata interval is reported by the server via the "icy-metaint" header in the response stream.
Such data looks like the following within the mp3 stream
StreamTitle='Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy

Problems with 1.3.11 and Ices 0.22
We just built a new server to run Icecast 1.3.11 and Ices 0.22.
It's a Dual PIII running RH7.1.
We put it online last night and Icecast ran fine for 20 hours. Then it
started throwing some errors.. That's when Ices died.
Ices reported a libshout error.
Part of the Icecast log is included. What can I do about this?

should_be_different -- possible implementation
There is an assert_difference helper for Test::Unit (you can read
about it at http://blog.caboo.se/articles/2006/06/13/a-better-
assert_difference and to some it should look familiar -- you know who
you are :), so I took a shot at one for rSpec on Rails.
class Object
def should_be_different(method = nil, difference = nil)
return self.should_not_eql(yield) if method.nil?

their conf files. fe.: Ices uses the default /ices mount point, end so on.
After playing serveral hours, problems come up... Ices dies. In the ices.log
these can be found:
Error during send: Libshout reported send error, disconnecting: Libshout
socket error.

Icecast Directory
Why does my stream not show up in the Icecast directory but it does show up in the Shoutcast directory?
I have the following lines listed in my icecast.conf file.
icydir yp.shoutcast.com
directory yp.icecast.org
If I check the icecast.log file I see the following is occurring every couple minutes.
[28/Dec/2001:11:12:04] [1:Calendar Thread] directory_touch_xa([yp.icecast.org:80

no go, same ices/icecast errors
Hi Brendan and all: Well the upgrade libshout didn't fix the
problem. Here are more logs from ices and icecast. They certainly
don't tell me much.

ices cvs crashing
Well, hi folks: I am still having this problem with ices crashing
regularly. I have upgraded to todays cvs for ices and icecast hoping
that would take care of it but no such luck. I am not sure just what
is going on. It seems to happen fairly often which is not exactly
making my listeners happy. I will include the relevant portion of the
ices.log below. I would appreciate any suggestions

Strangeness
Icecast has been working flawlessly for months serving hundreds of users a
day... But something strange is now going on... Do you know what it could be?
I start the icecast as usual:
/usr/sbin/icecast -c /etc/icecast/icecast.conf
Then the ices "player"
/usr/local/icecast/bin/ices -c /usr/local/icecast/conf/ices.conf
But now, the player is now dying constantly with Invalid

Strangeness
Ahhhh, this is very strange! MY icecast server started doing the
same exact thing today out of the blue! it looks as if hundreds of
sources try to connect or something. but why would we both have the same
problem at the same time after months of it working fine?

Icecast2 Win32: any way to minimize on start orrunas a service?
You could always run this as a service using Microsoft's tools from the NT
3.5 Resource Kit. The two tools you need are srvany.exe and instsrv.exe.
I've used this many times on Win2k with no problems. You can download the
resource kit from Microsoft here:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/reskit/nt35/i386/i386.exe
And there is an article about how to set it up here:

Problems with ProxyPass to a local ip (using SSL)
Hi all,
I am trying to setup an apache virtualhost under CentOS 6.7 that needs to redirects requests from port 444 to port 5100 in its local ip. But I am doing some mistakes because every time I'm receiving a loop error.
My actual httpd's config for this virtualhost is:

CPU Utilization Weirdness
Did some more experimenting last night. When I changed icecast and ices back
to 'daemon mode' they lasted for about 5 songs, before tanking. I then tried
combinations of icecast as a daemon and ices not, and vice versa - same
results. Even recompiled without any mods to icecast.
The only thing that seems to work is starting the processes and piping them
to null. The only disadvantage to

CPU Utilization Weirdness
Made the change and so far so good, CPU is back where it should be. Running
2 streams at 56K 22Hz is using about 5% CPU total - most respectable I
think.
I have only been running this config for about 10 minutes, but so far so
good. Will post follow up tomorrow.
Thanks Jack - question tho: isn't using console mode 3 the same as using -b
(from the description in the conf file anyway) or it is

LDAP Lookup not returning value in maxStorage
Hi there,
We're setting up a Dovecot virtual email setup - we've got everything
working perfect with LDAP logins authenticating against AD and so
forth, but we're having issues with retrieving the maxStorage value
from AD (this is a pre-setup field in AD that we'd like to use to set
per user quotas).
In our LDAP lookup, we have the maxStorage entry listed under
user_attrs for the
