Liveice & RedHat 7.1
Help!!
I compiled liveice on a more-or-less stock RH 7.1 (2.4.2-2) server install.
It starts, appears to connect (to a Shoutcast server), lame runs using an
appropriate CPU %, lists OK on yp.shoutcast.com - but clients can't connect
properly (ICY 200 OK then stalls) - & the liveice console "vu display" is
blank.
With VERBOSE 10 I get:

Propping up liveice
I'm a volunteer who runs the mp3 streaming for KGNU-FM in Boulder,
Colorado. We stream live at 64K with Linux, icecast 1.3.12+ minor
patches, liveice, and lame 3.92. It easily supports 32 internet
listeners 24x7 from a donated 400MHz Pentium II.
Liveice is the only problem--it does its job of connecting the soundcard
rec in to the lame encoder and to icecast, but dies without

icecast 2.x & a control panel?
I don't know of any such tool...but maybe I'm out of the loop.
If writing your own, I'd humbly suggest using Webmin as the framework.
It handles a lot of the 'grunt work' for you, and makes writing web
based server administration tools a breeze. Unless you have an aversion
to perl, it's a great starting place. With Webmin based modules, you
get fine grained ACLs,

Dynamic playlist support
I've actually been working on that same idea for the past few weeks. The final
product is Livewire Radio, which I've just promoted from alpha to stable beta.
It uses PHP and MySQL, and thus integrates very easily with a website.
I'll be releasing the source code on SourceForge once I do a few final
modifications: http://livewire.sourceforge.net/. Check within a day or two and

Adam (and everyone else that is interested),
I'm currently developing one called Livewire Radio. It's written in PHP4/MySQL,
and currently supports a user-based system, plays random tracks when no requests
are queued, and keeps solid statistics on what songs have been requested and played.
It also has the beginnings of a credit system (which can be turned on or off) to keep the queue of

icecast 2.x & a control panel?
Hi all!
I have a some of questions, I know that you can guide
me through this:
1. Where I can get icecast 2.x?
2. What's the main difference between icecast 1.3.11 &
2.x?
3. I will stream live audio from a radio, is better if
I user 2.x?
4. I would like to have a sort of control panel that
could have a functionality like this (better if its
open-source):
*Record the Ips & subnets

Web Based Front Ends

Can anyone comment on the "front ends" they are using to manage their
ices/icecast streams?
I have done some searching and playing with such web-based products as
netjuke, and obsequium, and otto audio jukebox, but none fill the
requirements exactly, and none appear to interface with ices/icecast the way
I would like.

encoding documentation
Hello,
I'm an Electrical Engineering student. I'm doing a
research job about audio compressing.
I'm looking for documentation about Vorbis analysis,
synthesis, coding and decoding. I took a look at Xiph
page documentation section, but it's not complete yet.
There's this site about encoding, but i only found
information about Vorbis windowing:

Dynamic playlist support
Here is my suggestion -- something i'm getting started on.
iceS supports writing a playlist handler in either Perl or Python, and that
could very well get the next song out of a database, that is fueled by
requests from users.
I'll be using Python (as it RULES! hehe), and the learning curve is rather
low.

Re: ASCAP/BMI and college stations (fwd)
Here is the response from my friend. I would venture to say that if we
were reporting to them then someone was paying a fee.

Sean,
In MTSU's case, I think their ASCAP/BMI license covers everything, including
WMOT and WMTS... I know WMTS didn't have to pay ASCAP/BMI fees....but..they
had to report their playlists to them...which was a pain in the ass....

[success] VB3 Program "Watchtower Library" now works
Hi!
Some time ago I wrote about two problems, which I encountered when
trying to run a VB3 program with Wine.
The program is called "Watchtower Library".
The search function crashed. With debugging and disassembling of
a .vbx I later found out that the program itself was bailing out
and not wine. But I had no idea how to remedy the problem.
The tooltips (in the program called

3d images
Hi,
The screenshots page of the R-project contains nice 3d images: "3d plot
of a surface" and "image and 3d plot of a volcano".
What packages were used to generate these images?
Or
What packages have 3d plotting capabilities?
thanks

bug fixes in vorbis-tools/share
Here's a patch to fix some bugs in my code, plus a header file I
probably forget to send in before.
* Missing header file charset.h. It's not needed outside
vorbis-tools/share, so I think it can live there.
* There was a minor bug in the UTF-8 decoder utf8_mbtowc().
* I've added some more tests in charset_test.c in an attempt to
convince myself that there aren't any more bugs.
