Icecast / liveice quandry
I've been running classic icecast + liveice for some time now (several years)
without problems. A couple days ago, the station manager (NPR affiliate) came
to me and asked if we could 'inject' a static file into the stream. Basically
what he wants is for the client to first receive a static file (requesting
donations of course) and then on to the live stream (*not* intermittently).

Icecast / liveice quandry
i know with icecast2/ices , karl heyes has some example config files for
mixing live/static content ( if i recall correctly ) .
however, what i had done in the past is add the static file to the .pls
prior to the live mount . if you generate the .pls files on demand , this
would work . ALSO , i'm quite sure that both icecast1/2 support
intro/outtro files , etc .. this may achieve the same

Where can I get Icecast 2.0?
I have Icecast 1.3.11 working just fine. Now I want to try to migrate
to the Ogg Vorbis thing, for purposes of static file streaming.
With 1.3.11 as a default install on RedHat 7.1, would I install v2.0
as a new product or overlay / delete the v1.3.11 install?
Thanks

problems with liveice
Hi! I'm running icecast 1.3.11 and liveice under
Mandrake 7.2
Right now I don't have a sound card, but I will. Also
I need to reencode the MP3s that I'm sending to the
icecast server.
I followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to
work, when I first run icecast and after liveice I got
this:
from icecast
Accepted encoder on mountpoint /icy_0 from
localhost.localdomain. 1

icecast - it is what i search
Hi!
I want to realize a realtime DJ Battle where some DJs enter
in a virtual cypher and start a HipHop Battle.
For example, there are 5 DJs an 5 listener in the Jury.
Only one DJ my play at present and the others can only listen.
After 2 minutes and a little break another DJ is on the turn
and so on.
Is icecast what i want? Can i realize it with icecast?
thanks,
buelent

Stupid question of the day
Hi all,
I just wanted to know where to find icecast2.
I've downloaded icecast 1.3.11 and it looks wonderful, and works fine as
far as I've tested it.
However I want to be able to stream ogg instead of mp3. I've search "icecast2"
on sourceforge, freshmeat, and google but to no avail.
Google's "I'm feeling lucky" sends me directly to

WebTV/ Windows Media Player
Don't know if this has been covered or even asked,
but how can you allow access to the streams to those
on WebTV and those using Windows Media Player.
We're using Icecast and Ices.
Thanks in advance!

choosing icecast and creating my own streamer
Hi all,
is icecast good for me?
I am interested in delivering some audio + mpeg4 animation through the internet (live streaming).
my mpeg4 animation is supposed to be smaller than the audio
o my questions are:
- would icecast, as it is, support a different kind of stream (my own type) or do i have to mux the audio and video before into a special format? or maybe it supports only audio?
- it

problems with liveice
I have installed lame, and its working well,
How to choose CD mode in liveice? I have just seen
with or without live input (soundcard).
Well, I will need to stream live input, from a radio,
what should I use instead of liveice?
what do you recomend me?
Thank you,
Rocael.

Hello!
First, sorry if my english is not very correct :-)
I'm a spanish student making a streaming project under Linux and I'd

live streaming
Hi list,
I am wanting to stream audio live to my sound card, have it compressed on the fly and sent to my
icecast server.
I had a look at darkice (http://darkice.sourceforge.net) but I didn't seem to be able to get that to
work, the stream skipped seriously and no config options or different encoder I used managed to get it
sounding normal.
The machine I am using to do the live encoding

multiple liveice sources
Hi,
I am trying to stream two different sources with two soundcards using
liveice and icecast, all from single Linux box. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible?
I tried creating two sets in the liveice config file where I specified
different devices. No erros but the latter source was streamed on both
mount points. Running two instances of liveice talking to one instance of
icecast failed.

hello!
does anyone have patch for liveice that the saved files (SAVE_FILE
directive in the config file) don't get overwritten if liveice is
stopped and started? i think about something like adding the current
date and time to the filename...
or ist there some other solution concerning dump (or save) files?
if there is no patch around, i

alternatives to liveice and darkice
are there any decent alternatives to live audio streaming [via. soundcard]
to darkice or liveice? after a few days fighting with darkice, i finally
managed to bring it up only to see that it takes 55% of my cpu just to
encode one 128kbps stream using libmp3lame. a similar 128kbps stream only
takes up 36% cpu using liveice. maybe i have something configured wrong, but
i was sortof expecting darkice

Sacrilege, but...
Hi all,
I'm afraid that having spent yet another entire day floundering around in
the world of icecast, I've really now got to the point of asking a
difficult question.
I set up an icecast server back in early 1999, and it seemed to work fine
for months. We had a server crash here that meant I had to go and reget
the sources to rebuild, and ever since then it has been nothing but
