I am a Idiot

Icecast always(1) gets it's input from a socket, generally via some 'source' program like ices, liveice, shout, etc. Now, as for which source you want, that depends on how you are streaming. If you are

broadcast FM radio
Hi. I want to broadcast FM radio. Can i pass data directly from my radio card to livecast and finally to my server, or must i pass data in the sound card after the radio card and before liveice? liveice sending horrible static noise?
Ah... mixice has nothing to do with liveice, does it? The reason you have to put -x in the LAME arguments in mixice is because LAME is set up to be big-endian by default. The x86 architecture is little-endian, though. I'm using liveice to encode the stream... and being on a big-endian powerpc machine, I've tried all I can to disable that byte-swapping option in LAME, which

liveice sending horrible static noise?
Please excuse my ignorance, what is a mixice program? I am using LAME. So in lifeice.cfg: USE_LAME3 lame I did try forcing byte-swapping in LAME by setting ENCODER_ARGS in the liveice.cfg file, though I may have done it wrong liveice.cfg: USE_LAME3 lame ENCODER_ARGS -x -Jesse > >How are you encoding the stream? yp.icecast.org || when does your stream come into the db?
hello, I have a stream which has been up and running for about 20 hours now. It's already in the yp.shoutcast.com, that happened within minutes. However, I would also like my stream to be in the yp.icecast.org list as well. How long should this take? cheers, t. (p.s. is under genre "jazz" in the shoutcast yp. the stream is http://194.109.227.136:8000, using liveice and

liveice sending horrible static noise?
Hi, I'm trying to get liveice to work on a YellowDog (powerpc) computer, and all I can get it to stream is an awful static noise. Listening carefully, I can barely hear the song in with the noise... Looking through the list archives, I see someone has posted a similar problem, and fixed it by undefining NUMBER_LITTLE_ENDIAN in liveice.h So I did, liveice.h:/* #define

live streaming
Hi list, I am wanting to stream audio live to my sound card, have it compressed on the fly and sent to my icecast server. I had a look at darkice (http://darkice.sourceforge.net) but I didn't seem to be able to get that to work, the stream skipped seriously and no config options or different encoder I used managed to get it sounding normal. The machine I am using to do the live encoding

Multiple ICES background daemons
Is there anyway to run multiple ices backgroud deamons and have more than one ices.pid file generated so that I can control each one seperately? I want to have mulitple ices streams running with different playlists and different stream names and control them using the signals. I start one ices process and it writes a file ices.pid to the /tmp directory and I can control it sy sending it

FreeBSD - 2 soundcards?
Hello, does anyone have experience of running two or more sound cards in a FreeBSD machine? I'm using liveice/icecast to stream radio stations, and I'd like to get several in one box. I realise a BSD list would be a better place for this, but who else but streaming folk would ever think about multiple sound cards? After installing a second card, when I makedev snd1, it creates all the

Icecast & Liveice b.s.
I have been fiddling with the darn thing for three days now, and i am at whits end. I dunno why it isn't working. Any help is so much appreciated. I am trying to use mpg123, liveice and icecast on my Alpha. It does not have a sound card. All three programs compile without any problems. If i did not know better, i just might a throw the alpha off the space station and watch it burn up on
