no go, same ices/icecast errors
Hi Brendan and all: Well the upgrade libshout didn't fix the
problem. Here are more logs from ices and icecast. They certainly
don't tell me much.

more ices errors
Hi Brendan and all: Well, the last set of changes you made didn't get
rid of the problem but the error messages certainly coincide with the
icecast.log messages now. So is the problem icecast or ices? Here is
just the last set of messages which caused it to die. There were many
more through out the file but they didn't hit the magic ten
consecutive.

Where can you get libshout? Ours chokes at roughly 40 users and then
can't gain access to the admin sections.

Icecast Problems Get Worse
I'm using whatever comes with Icecast 1.3.11 and Ices 0.22.
Just grabbed both tarballs from Icecast.org.
Is there a way to find out the libshout version? I can't really tell from
the Ices source...

CPU Utilization Weirdness
Well, thought I would try one stream only to see if that makes a difference.
Apparently not. Here is a listing of the logs and I have attached the conf
file and the startup scripts that I use.

Squid for better streaming MP3?
A question....
How much the streaming will be better using Squid as
HTTP accelerator for the streaming? The users will
connect against Squid instead directly to Icecast.
Squid will connect to Icecast. This must permit more
users at the same time by using the cache of Squid.
Anyone has installed this? I´m studing this but if
someone has another idea or a reason to not do this,
please say to me....

ices 0.1.0 released
I am having one slight weirdness which I haven't been able to put my
finger on yet. About once every other day or so ices dies with an error
about libshout not being able to reconnect to the server. I am not
sure who is guilty here ices or icecast. Unfortunately it only
happens rarely, twice so far, I'll let you folks know more if I can
get a better handle on it.

ices 0.1.0 released
Hi,
Since I got no negative feedback (or any feedback) about the autoconf
changes I did a couple days ago, I've released ices 0.1.0 at
http://www.icecast.org/releases/ices-0.1.0.tar.gz
This is mostly a collection of minor bugfixes, plus an update to the
reencoder to use the current LAME API. Note you'll need at least LAME
3.88beta to use reencoding. From the changelog:

ssh2 key passphrase problems in 2.9.9 on Linux
I've just compiled and installed openssh-2.9.9p2 (compiled against
openssl-0.9.6b using gcc-3.0.0) on a Slackware 7-based Linux machine
(kernel 2.4.6ac2). The previously installed version was 2.9p2, compiled
against openssl-0.9.6a, also with gcc-3.0.0, but with a different build of
gcc-3.0.0.
Everything seems to work fine except for one problem: passphrase matching
for ssh2 keys

How to use http-put for JavaScript source client
I'm following up on a thread started by Stephen a couple months ago about building a JavaScript source client using webrtc.
The first step suggested was to figure out how to mux the audio and video. After I posted a feature request on the webrtc experiment js library, we seem to have a solution: https://github.com/muaz-khan/WebRTC-Experiment/issues/28#issuecomment-20791759

I declare ices stable
What's the trick. My server will hardly serve 4 people without
skipping and eventually dropping the connection. I am running from a
cable modem to a T1 network! Is there a trick.
I set the default_bitrate everywhere from 24k to 128k with varying
degree's of shittiness. I am using the latest sources from both the
project websites. I would really like to get it running. The

executing R batch files
The following command, issued from the DOS command prompt (running Windows
XP), produces the intended result of a .csv file created by program.R:
?c:\program files\R\R-2.8.0\bin\Rterm.exe? --save < "c:\TEMP\program.R"
However, when I create a file called Rbatch.bat that contains exactly the
line above, and try to execute it (by double clicking or via the Shell
command

Hollander's test of bivariate symmetry
Does anyone know if any R package has a function that will conduct
Hollander's test of bivariate symmetry?
(Hollander, Biometrika, 1971)
Either the exact test or an asymptotic version would be sufficient for my
purposes.
Thanks.

understanding lexical scope
I am trying to understand the concept of lexical scope in "An Introduction
to R" by the R Core development team.
I'd appreciate it if someone would explain why the following example does
not work:
q <- function(y) {x + y}; w <- function(x){q(x)}; w(2);
According to the discussion of Scope on page 46, it seems to me that R
will interpret the free variable x in q as the

understanding recursive functions
I'm trying to understand the use of recursive functions described on page
45 of An Introduction to R by the R core development team.
A function is a list of expressions, which all get executed with only the
last being assigned to a global variable, right?
So if a function refers recursively to itself, it should simply start with
the first
expression and go from there. At least that is my
