Firewall issue with Icecast
Pierre Amadio expunged (pierre.amadio@libertysurf.fr): > Icecast use only 1 port, so all you have to do is to accept connection > on port 8000. There shall be no active/passive trouble such as ftp. > > Well, at least this is how i imagine things are , are they not ? :) I guess I need to provide a packet trace, which I don't have handy. I think that Icecast may initiate a TCP SYN

cannot compile pam_winbind
Hi everybody. I am trying to set up winbind (2.2.4; debian) but if I do configure with these options I get the following errormessage: Configscript: ================================== #! /bin/sh ./configure \ --with-swatdir=/usr/share/swat \ --prefix=/usr \ --bindir=/usr/bin \ --sbindir=/usr/sbin \ --exec-prefix=/usr \ --infodir=/usr/share/info \

Request for a new feature
Hello rsync list subscribers! I posted the message I'm resending below some time ago to mbp. I didn't get any response. A couple of days ago, I found it in this list using Google. I also could read a response there about using zlibc. I think zlibc does not do what I want. 1st. it is a readonly system. 2nd. it does not deals with links very well. rsync is very appropriate to copy a whole

Cross Subnet WINS?
But the win wks on the other subnet is configured to use my SAMBASERVER as its WINS SERVER, and it is configured using the IP Adress of the SAMBASERVER and not the name. Shouldn't this do the trick? win wks is on a wireless subnet and hence runs at 11 MBPS, while the SAMBASERVER is on a wired subnet. I read somewhere that windows does some kind of "optimization" with slow networks.

OpenSSH on Reliant UNIX
Hello, it's me again ! I tried to compile / install OpenSSH on our Reliant UNIX system, OS version 5.45 (and 5.44). The following problems did appear: 1. OpenSSL-0.9.5a will not compile out of the box. The problem on RU 5.45 is, that the compiler does support "long long" but NOT "unsigned long long". The latter just provokes the error message "superfluous

Difference 2.1.1 and 2.3.0p1 on Reliant UNIX
Hi ! I upgraded one of our Reliant UNIX systems from 2.1.1 to 2.3.0p1. Now, I suddenly can't login any more. The error message is: Attempting authentication for illegal user ... The reason is: Password expiration Although I don't use my password to login, at all. I login via RSAAuthentication and this did work with version 2.1.1. Version 2.3.0p1, obviously, checks the password

Icecast 2: planned stuff.
Syslog is the proper way to do logging on a UNIX/Linux system. In a serious production environment, you tend to be automatically disqualified from consideration for doing anything different -- it's just too much of a headache to figure out all the quirks of non-standard applications. On the other hand, if ICECAST was only ever intended as a hobby, then it really doesn't matter.

Icecast 2: planned stuff.
Hi there. I had a look at how icecast 2 works after having been pleased by how icecast 1 worked. I succesfully made it work on a debian woody (for those interested at how i did it http://melmoth.dyndns.org/stream/ It's in french yet). I was however disapointed a bit by not finding the admin console I used to find in icecast 1. So, several questions: is this admin console planned to be

Rhosts-RSA authentication broken
Hello ! I think a problem was introduced in openssh-2.3.0p1 which is still there in the latest openssh-2.5.2p1. I just noticed it before my vacation and could not send this mail earlier than today. The problem is: You can't use the Rhosts-RSA authentication based on the hosts.equiv file and the host keys. The only possible way to do rhosts-RSA authentication is to allow the usage of the
