New Document for People Helping with Shorewall Support
The Shorewall support page advocates including the output of "shorewall status" with problem reports that involve some sort of connection problem. I suspect that the number of people who feel comfortable analyzing problems through use this output is small. To help, I''ve created http://shorewall.net/AnalyzingShorewallStatus.html I suspect that the document isn''t

Multi-ISP in 2.4.0
Hello Shorewall list, I''m a happy Shorewall user since a few years now and everything works fine for me except one thing that I try to implement since a week, the multi-isp. I''ve downloaded the 2.4.0 Stable release yesterday and tried the RC2 since a week. My config is a Debian running a kernel 2.4.27 home made with the CONNMARK.diff patch applied I''m using 2 ISP,

Setup: - Mandrake 9.1 with three interfaces (eth0 --> WAN) C-class /28 network (with tree virtual addresses which I am DNAT-ing to the DMZ) (eth1 --> LAN) A-class 10.0.0.0/8 (eth2 --> DMZ) A-class subnet 10.1.123.0/24 - Running stock Shorewall ver: shorewall-1.3.14-3.1.91mdk Dilemma: - LAN can not access the DMZ zone

RE: Proxy ARP working from Internet butnotfromfwand loc
Hi Alex, and thanks for your time. Probably not. The servers are only configured like they where when they where parallel to the fw. Just the default gateway, same as for the external interface on the fw. That''s what the documentation instructed to configure the servers using arp. But is it required with extra configuration on the server connected via proxy arp? Or is it some parameter

pb with iptables snat script
hi list, oh it''s not really a problem. Each time i fire shorewall, i run a custom iptables script: (for the openvpn machines to have route back from my bridge/fw - $SOURCEIP is the ip of my OpenVPN/Fw/bridge) iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -s 10.8.0.0/16 -j SNAT --to-source $SOURCEIP i wish to better integrate it within shorewall, so is there any config files that could achieve the

Dmz
Hey Tom, I have successfully set up to servers on a Dmz practice network woohoo :). If I take out the proxyarp option in /etc/shorewall/interfaces Then Dmz can ping outside ip''s on the net but not and of my servers on network 66.224.62.96/27 (Other than its own gateway server 66.224.62.120) The reason I ask is to learn. I thought I would not need the proxyarp option for this to

DMZ hosts gateway
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the default gateway for hosts on DMZ zone. I moved servers from parallel to the DMZ (outside the firewall, directly connected to I-net) to inside DMZ. The default gw for these servers was the DSL router(bridge) of my ISP. What should be the default gw (for the hosts inside the DMZ), when hosts are inside the DMZ now - still the DSL router (external

dmz setup
I am trying to add a machine into my dmz. It is the first machine I''ve ever added to this dmz and fro some reason I cannot establish communication between the dmz and the machine. Here is an example of my setup: ISP router --> firewall (eth0) firewall (eth1) --> local network firewall (eth2) --> DMZ eth0 and eth2 have public IP addresses as does the machine I just added to

mail server in dmz
Hi, in a three interface firewall I have eth0, loc, 10.1.5.1/16 eth1, int, 200.41.61.228/29 eth2, dmz, 192.168.1.1/24 (un)fortunately I got a group of public ip?s to use, so here is my problem in the dmz I have 192.168.1.3 redirected from eth1 alias 200.41.61.226 (a web server, works perfect). I am trying to set up a mail server also, a different machine, so I can?t use proxyarp, as with this,

Proxy ARP working from Internet but not from fw and loc
Hello everybody. I could not find an answer to my problem in the archive. (But that may just be me :-) ) I have a problem with proxy arp and connection from loc (localnet) and from the firewall. Works fine from internet to dmz / proxy arp and vise versa. I have a feeling the solution is simple, but I''m no guru in Linux routing etc. The problem seems to be the routing setup. loc -

Net > DMZ > AllowFTP
Lables: Gateway = 209.5.171.65 Netmask = 255.255.255.192 Eth0 = net = 209.5.171.66 Eth1 = loc = 192.168.0.1 There is no NAT clients, in essence loc is dmz. I can rename loc to dmz if that helps. Proxy/ARP is used for IP addresses 209.5.171.67-126 Problem: Using the Shorewall Action AllowFTP does not result in desired behavior when connecting from Internet to machines behind firewall in DMZ. config question for proxyarp hosts?
I''ve got a serious mess of NAT on our firewall/router systems at the corporate office which seems to do nothing other than confuse the heck out of people. What I''d like to do is gradually migrate the hosts on the various DMZ networks away from private IP addresses and NAT over to public IP addresses and proxyarp. What I''m wondering, before I start this, is how do I

Proxy ARP
Hi all! I posted earlier about the proxy arp configuration = http://shorewall.sourceforge.net/shorewall_setup_guide.htm#NonRouted, = and was probably not sufficiently knowledgeable on the subject. I''ve = gone through a bunch of documents on proxy arp, subnetting with proxy = arp and the documentation at shorewall, and have come up with a setup = that would be perfect for the job at hand

Proxyarp vs DNAT
Hello list, I am in the process of switching from IPCOP to Shorewall s the firewall for our small office. I very much like the fact that Shorewall runs on top of the same OS (openSuSE 11.4) that I run on the server and my desktop. Our setup is fairly straightforward. We have 8 static ip addresses from our ISP, which provides a cable modem and a Cisco 800 series router. The ip addresses are

Is ProxyARP or NAT entries really neccesary for DNAT to work?
I have been trying to get DNAT to work and I actually have succeeded too, however, not how I thought it would work when reading through the documentation. 1. No matter what I do I cannot get DNAT to work unless I have an entry in eiter the nat or the proxyarp file. Is that really how it''s supposed to be? I can''t find anything about it in the documentation. 2. Also, in the

ProxyARP in a Routed environment
Hi, In a routed network setup , is it possible to use ProxyARP given the condition that the shorewall external interface and the DMZ interface are in a completely different network . That means the gateway of the External interface and the hosts in ProxyARPed DMZ zones are in different network. eth0 ---in 220.227.X.Y/30 -- shorewall external interface eth1 ---in 220.227.A.B/27 -- shorewall
