FLAC format: "autonomous" documentation
Good point. But, gee, doesn't the source code serve as a provably-
complete documentation of the format? It's able to be compiled into
a program that can decode all files.
I'm only half serious. Source code is not the most concise way to
describe a format.

I *desperately* want to provide the cover art for my own album in PDF
format. Presently I provide JPG in the MP3s; at 72 DPI it

Flac] Where Cover Art?
You said "With the exception of where to put a picture file, VorbisComments
in a Vorbis stream are the same as VorbisComments in a FLAC stream."
In METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE case they would not be the same. Up to now we
could exchange the complete block of VorbisComments. But with the addiction
of METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE doesn't happen this way.
In Ogg files the METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE

Flac and lyrics
Both MPEG-4 File Format (mp4) and Matroska (mkv) have an interesting
format for lyrics and subtitles. Since these container formats can
contain multiple contain streams, lyrics or subtitles are just another
"stream" interleaved with the rest of the data. They are synchronized by
having timestamps like any other stream. The payload is just text data.
If you don't care about

Album art - requirements
Hi,
there was a thread a few months ago about album art, and how to
embed it in an Ogg stream. The outcome was unconclusive, and kind
of settled on the existing practice of adding a uuencoded image
in a Vorbis comment, or similar.
A better solution would be to embed those images as a separate
stream, including hints as to what image represents (front cover,
back cover, etc). The obvious

Flac and lyrics
Hi,
I haven't seen any information about Lyrics in the documentation and
mail archives, so I guess the answer... but may be I've missed something...
Does flac support lyrics?

cuepoints: accuracy, titles and players
Hello,
I managed to insert cuepoints from a cue sheet and
check them with metaflac. I witnessed that the FLAC
headers then had additionnals sections (one for cuepoints
and one for seekpoints), but i could not find documentation
how the format used to store them (frame counts for both ?).
Anyway it seems that cuepoints must be specified
in MM:SS:fr format.
It would be nice if those could be

Reference Classes: how to clone/copy instances?
Dear list,
I don't know what's the correct term for this in the OOP context, but is it
possible to "clone"/copy an instance of a reference class (say 'a') so that
I get an *autonomous* second instance 'b'? Autonomous in the sense that
changes to 'a' do not affect 'b'.
I know that this is somewhat against the pass-by-reference paradigm, but the

cuepoints: accuracy, titles and players
Thank you Josh, the link clearly explains FLAC's philosophy and it souds quite logical:
"For FLAC the intention is that applications can calculate the CDDB or CDindex ID from the CUESHEET block and look it up in an online or local database just like CD rippers and players do. But if you really want it in the file itself, the track metadata should be stored separate from the CUESHEET, and

Well, it's collection-level metadata, so it doesn't belong in files
at all. :)

It makes sense to reference it per-chain-segment in an Ogg

Comparaciones múltiples
Saludos,

maps for Russian Federation
Dear all,
I am interested in plotting maps visualizing spatial statistics in an
aggregated fashion, according to administrative boundaries. Partially, I
want to visualize some spatial data for administrative units (autonomous
republics, oblasts, krays) of the Russian Federation on a geographical
map.
I have found the maps package (and related) and would like to use this
package e.g. in a kind

Problem with read.table()
Hello everybody,
I'm a new user and I'm trying to use read.table with a tab delimited
file but the system tells me (i) that there are more columns than
column names, and (ii) that headers and col.names are of different
lengths. I have already checked my variable names and there's no blank
spaces. However, some variables have quite long names such as

trigger command on successful upload?
Hello,
I am working on implementing rsync to replace a server
distribution mechanism that currently works like this:
1) process new file on backend server
2) upload file to frontend server using scp or rsync over ssh
3) ssh to frontend server to trigger script
#3 is only used in a couple special cases
I have this tested and working:
1) (same as above)
2) upload file to frontend server using
