cuepoints: accuracy, titles and players
Hello,
I managed to insert cuepoints from a cue sheet and
check them with metaflac. I witnessed that the FLAC
headers then had additionnals sections (one for cuepoints
and one for seekpoints), but i could not find documentation
how the format used to store them (frame counts for both ?).
Anyway it seems that cuepoints must be specified
in MM:SS:fr format.
It would be nice if those could be

flac --replay-gain
I have FLAC files that I would like to re-encode with --replay-gain. I have my Flac's organized in Artist/Album folders, so I should have no problem getting an album gain/peak per album.
Do I need to first de-code the flac's to wav files and then "flac --replay-gain *.wav", or can this be accomplished by going to each Album directory and "flac -f --replay-gain

metaflac
Hi List,
I am writing an audio player that exclusively plays FLAC sound files,
with CUE sheets. It is written in Python, so it is cross-platform, and
it is working very well so far. The soundfile IO is handled by the
Audiere library. For metadata (aside from the CUE sheet), I make system
calls to metaflac to do things like extract album art for display, and I
have a question concerning metaflac.

[Flac-users] questions about 1.1.0 release
Thank you for the new release, Josh. I've downloaded it, but some of the
details in the history file puzzle me, so I've not tried to use it yet.
Pardon my denseness here ...
First, as long as you don't use the --cuesheet option when you encode, are
.flac files encoded by 1.1.0 still readable by earlier versions?
Second, if the old default for seekpoints was -S100x and the new one is

[Flac-users] Grip, FLAC, and album replay gain
OK, here's a problem:
I want to set the album replay gain in each track, but I'm using grip to
rip and encode the tracks one by one. grip knows that all the tracks are
on a single album, but FLAC sees them one at a time. I put the
--replay-gain
option on the FLAC command line, so it emits four comments into the
vorbis commebnt block, e.g.:

Indexed FLAC file?
Hi all,
I have a very large music collection that I keep on a portable hard
drive (to plug in to car USB, carry with when I'm at my office, etc).
All but a few dozen files are part of an album, and not a single audio
file. This translates to an insane amount of files stored on my hard
drive. I am very strict about how I label and file my media (I loathe
unlabeled audio tracks), but

Playback + Replay Gain questions
I'm hoping to set up a headless system to playback my audio once I get back home after an extended leave. Ideally I'd just ssh in and use a curses based player to play back FLACs and mp3s. This leads me to a few quesitons:
1. What is the minimun processor speed needed to decode and play flac files? I have an old P100 I would like to use for the task if it is sufficient.
2. When

cuepoints: accuracy, titles and players
Thank you Josh, the link clearly explains FLAC's philosophy and it souds quite logical:
"For FLAC the intention is that applications can calculate the CDDB or CDindex ID from the CUESHEET block and look it up in an online or local database just like CD rippers and players do. But if you really want it in the file itself, the track metadata should be stored separate from the CUESHEET, and

Playback + Replay Gain questions
Thanks! You've been most informative. Do the command line options vary for album and track or is the album gain computed automatically if it's done on a batch of files?

Cue sheets/Tagging question
Is it possible to place track markers that will be reflected in a cue sheet within a long FLAC file?
I have a label who want to offer FLAC downloads of complete albums - but there have to be track points designated within the FLAC file
How can I do this please?
Many Thanks

max size for album art?
Is there any size limitation for album art?
I have a user who says adding large artwork (from a scanner) is corrupting
the file metadata. I don't know if this is a flac limitation, a tag lib
issue, or something I'm doing.
Thanks,
Scott

Playback + Replay Gain questions
Thanks :D I did see that but wasn't sure if there was an option needed or how it decided to do the album gain. I fiddled with metaflac and checked for the REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN and my files seem to have it :D Suppose there is only 1 file to encode. Does FLAC still add the album gains?

Bug Report. Replay-gain and ogg.
I just bought an I Audio mobile device (Btw, these thigns are the
coolest players on the face of the earth.. might want to check em out).
It plays ogg vorbis files rather nicely. My whole music library is
sitting in flac format. When I encoded my flac files (the majority a
year ago) I used replay gain to save the album and track information if
the flac file.
Unfortunately, the I audio doesnt like

2^24 = 16777216, i.e. only 16 Megabytes.

FLAC CD Archive
I see that this was the right place to fire off this question. Thanks
for your feedback. It has given me a base to start some trials. I used
to use EAC on Windows, but I tend to only use open source software as
much as possible and I don't use Windows any more. I gave a brief look
at abcde, but it is clear I need to look at this some more. It looks
like it has the potential to do everything I

FLAC: how to dump seekpoints ?
Hello,
metaflac provides exporting CUEpoints, but not SEEKpoints.
As i understand, cuepoints represent gaps beetween tracks (inserting pause),
whereas seekpoints merely describe a list of seekable points.
Can cuepoint be used just as seekpoints (in the end, the
only thing which matters is that some classic media players
will recognize them).
In the script i have just posted before (joining

My vision of how the players should work is this:
- make one album.flac with CUESHEET
- player loads album.flac, sees CUESHEET, calculates CDDB id
(or CDindex, or custom
