problems with flac?
So I recently encoded my entire CD collection (over
7000 songs) to flac and I have found that 18 of them
have a strange problem. The files are corrupted in
some way.. They will stop playing abruptly in the
middle of the song. I've attached a listing of the
metadata and you'll see what I mean.
You can see that the seek points toward the end have a
bunch of zeros and I'm not sure

libflac doesn't find more than one metadata block
Hello, I'm currently doing a little music player using libflac and libao. What
I've currently done works as it should, but I have a problem where only one
metadata block is detected, even if there are more (it doesn't have the last
attribute set to true).
This is using flac 1.3.2 on Gentoo amd64.
The main code file is attached, it mainly follows the examples given with the

Help upgrading to 1.1.3 (MD5 sum issues, album art corrupts files)
Hello all,
I recently upgraded the libFLAC used in my application Max (http://
sbooth.org/Max/) to 1.1.3 and added preliminary support for album
art. During the upgrade I evidently made some coding mistakes with
interesting results. I've combed everything over and can't quite see
the problems. I've become somewhat frustrated because my code didn't
really change

newbie questions re flac on win32 eac and id3v2
Firstly, a big thank-you to Josh for FLAC. Someone mentioned it in a post on
Slashdot, so I came over to sourceforge for a look-see. This is just the
sort of thing I've been looking for.
Can anyone relate any general tips for using flac on Windows for the purpose
of archiving cd's? If I can nail down a solid, easy-to-use process, I'm
happy to write it up and contribute it to the

How to handle multiple STREAMINFO blocks?
It's certainly best to honor what the specification says. My
assumption is that a "stream" could also be a continuous broadcast,
not just a file. With a hypothetical server streaming FLAC
bitstreams, I would assume that the most recent STREAMINFO is valid
until another one comes along. If you're writing a file player, then
perhaps you can trust the spec and assume

FLAC StreamInfo Parsing
Hello!
I'm implementing custom flac metadata parser. Currently the very big
trouble is to parse StreamInfo metadata block.
According to specifications
(http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html#metadata_block_streaminfo)
we've got 2 bytes fir minBlockSize, 2 bytes for maxBlock size, 3 + 3
bytes for min/max FrameSize.
Now the interesting point -- sampleRate. number of channels, buts per

How to handle multiple STREAMINFO blocks?
I'm writing a program that plays FLAC files using the libFLAC API's.
Is there a specific way I'm supposed to handle multiple STREAMINFO
metadata blocks?
For example, should I ignore all but the first, or all but the last?
The format spec doesn't mention anything.
Thanks,

FLAC StreamInfo Parsing
Thank you very much! But how to deal with endianness in the case of
bit stream? Some blocks (for example MinBlockSize) require 16bits
(simply swap first and second), some block (e.g.MinFrameSize) require
3 byte-array to be reverted.
Finally totalSamples is stored in 5 bytes ( only last 4 bits from
first one byte are used). It was a real issue to make it little-endian

FLAC: ERROR, MD5 signature mismatch
Hi
I have downloaded a FLAC file somewhere and when trying to decode it to WAV
it gives the error message: ERROR, MD5 signature mismatch
So my question is now: are FLAC files that give the error message above
still decodable to WAV (and how can you do this, because flac.exe doesn't
want to decode the file), even if there is a MD5 signature mismatch, or is
this not possible at all?
thx

Decoding error: fingerprint unset in streaminfo block
Using Trader's Little Helper 2.4.1.160 when testing some 16/96 FLAC
files I run into the following error:
"file is decodable without error, but flac fingerprint cannot be
checked since it was unset in the streaminfo block."
Is there an automatic checksum verification when testing/decoding? Is
there any way to fix this, i.e. get rid of the error?

Bug: flac --replay-gain thinks that I used --no-padding
If I use flac to encode with the --replay-gain
option, I get a warning about the --no-padding
option...
"NOTE: --replay-gain may leave a small PADDING block even with --no-padding"
...even though I'm not using --no-padding. And the
file does end up with a small padding block, so
changing tags is slow.
I'd fixed this bug in my own copy of flac 1.1.4,

Thank you again, Miroslav. I tried that, and it took almost two full
days (surprisingly, Windows ME stayed up that long without crashing) to
re-encode the entire set on my 266-MHz machine. After all, in the help

Problems with stereo data
Hi all,
I have a problem when I am encoding (or decoding) stereo audio.
With mono data, things are fine and everything works without any problems.
When I try to decode stereo data, all I get is a static sound - similar to that of a radio not tuned to any specific station. I wonder what might be wrong?
Below is the code, first, of the encoder and next that of the decoder. Any information or

FLAC StreamInfo Parsing
Hello Ilia,
The FLAC format by nature is not a byte stream, it's a bit stream.
Therefore, in order to parse it you need too build a bit-reading
infrastructure. Eg. a class that accepts a byte stream, implements
buffering, etc, etc, and supports reading a specified number of bits, not
bytes as you are used to. There is quite a lot of bit logic there, but
nothing too scary.
Best Regards,
