polar.plot
Hi,
Two questions:
1 - Say I have average speed and directions for tide and I would like to
plot them on a polar plot, but with different colors so I can indicate the
two directions. I'm using polar.plot from the plotrix library. How can I add
a second "b" and "dir.b" series to a polar.plot?
library(plotrix)
a = 3
dir.a = 85
b = 4
dir.b = 250
polar.plot(a, dir.a, start =

BSOD with ESS under win2000
I have had a visit from our windows buddy the BSOD twice in one day when
running
R1.6.2 under ESS5.1.24 on a win2000 platform. I wasn't doing anything
special, just
moving or resizing the emacs window, although I did have 4 or 5 emacs
windows
open at the time. Has anyone else observed this problem?
Thanks, Darryl.

extending an active record model with obj.extend(Module)
Hi everyone,
I am trying to extend an active record model using obj.extend(module).
The aim is to overwrite some of the model methods depending on what''s in
the object. For example, the base class would be "file", with objects
such as "image", and "text".
The aim is to be able to something like this:
file = File.new()
file.extend(Image)
file.process

model.frame.default problem in function definition
Could someone point me in the right direction for the following issue:
A function is defined as follows:
tfun <- function(dat)
{
fmla <- as.formula("y~x+z")
dat2 <- dat
mdl <- lm(fmla,dat2)
mdl <- step(mdl)
}
Then the following code
dat <- data.frame(x=1:10,z=1:10,y=(1:10)^2+10*(1:10))
tfun(dat)
generates the output

MS Flight Simulator?
Anybody had any luck getting MS flight simulator running? I'm running
Ubuntu 7.10 on Intel and got to missing
the Winders flight simulators after someone just gave me FS-X. It starts to
install fine until it asks for the second DVD, which it never sees. When I
click the Retry button, it keeps coming back with "Insert Disk #2."
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Gerry

Rid me of this boot GUI
One of these days, RedHat might actually run me off!!!! AAAARGH!!!!
Can anyone tell me how to get CentOS 4 to simply boot to the console in
text mode? If I wanted a stinkin' GUI I would have installed winders!
Now, my KVM and 25 foot cord is just too long to send a GUI signal
across the room and I'm missing 50% of the screen.. striped vertically..

re-encode tool win32
Under linux/bash, it would be something like....
cd /MusicDirectory

Or to simplify and not test each file before re-encode....
find . -type f -name "*.flac" -exec flac -8 {} \; -print
Can someone translate this into NTBatch? Basically, recursive "dir" *.flac files as a

R 3.1.0 and C++11
I would like to bring up two issues concerning C++11.
First, the R-devel manuals contain incorrect statements regarding C++11:
i) R-exts.texi:
Although there is a 2011 version of the C++ standard, it is not yet
fully implemented (nor is it likely to be widely available for some
years) and portable C++ code needs to follow the 1998 standard
(and not use features

Re: Issue with virt-builder on Ubuntu 14.04
Rich you're right, I forgot to run make. I added 'set -x' and reran make
and then ran 'virt-builder -v -x' and it seems to hang at dhclient (see
attached log).

CentOS 5 and bittorrent
Folks. This is likely to be the hardest hit CentOS has ever taken with
regards to bandwidth needs.
I was really hesitant to use bittorrent for this type of thing for a
long time. However, it really is nice to give back at least what you
take. At the moment, I'm seeing almost 3000 connections to the torrent.
That times 3.5 gigs is a pretty huge chunk of data... and it has just begun.

I have a data.frame as follows:

a 2
a 1
b 3

c 2

Each factor (a, b, c) should be monotonically decreasing, notice that factor
'c' is not.
I could use some help to figure out how to form a logical structure (mostly
just syntax), that will check each 'next value' for each factor to see if it
is less than the previous value. If it is less than the

Re: Issue with virt-builder on Ubuntu 14.04
- I tried forcing TCG and it gets to the same spot and stops.
- running make quickcheck passes the tests (see attached)
- I tried a different kernel (3.13.0-49-generic) and again it passes the
quickcheck but virt-builder hangs.
- I added 'set -x' to the top of the init script and I don't see any
additional output (see attached)

netbios-ns address already in use?
I was just browsing through my logs and noticed this many times:
Dec 2 14:00:37 barney inetd[3021]: netbios-ns/udp: bind: Address already
in use
netbios-ns should run on port 137/udp right? This is the samba nmbd
server, right? When I do a ps -fe |grep nmbd I see this:
root 708 1 0.0 Nov 26 ?? 3:52.39 nmbd -n Alpha_1000
root 709 708 0.0 Nov 26 ??
