format question
Hi,
I am thinking about making a small tool. After reading about patents
and mp3 I choose another format. OGG seems best.
I was wondering if I can edit the OGG files and adjust the volume, to
create a Fade-in and Fade-out. The tool I need makes
configurable timed fade-ins and fade-outs of the volume of my OGG files.
And if someone knows good python libaries for OGG I would like to hear

Playback + Replay Gain questions
Thanks! You've been most informative. Do the command line options vary for album and track or is the album gain computed automatically if it's done on a batch of files?

Flax support for docx
Anyone used Flax to search for docx?
I'm testing on XP.
Installed msxml6.msi and FilterPackx86.exe but Flax dosen't seem to
register *.docx as a document type.
Is there a way for me to add it in?
Thanks,
Frank

Rewriting opt-viewer in C++
If the decision on whether this should swing Python or C++ is still open, here’s some food for thought: it’s trivially parallelizable.
I lobbed some stuff in https://reviews.llvm.org/D26789
I used the pure python PyYAML and got a speedup of ~4x on my test case. I expect you might still be able to get an improvement with libYAML + a patch like this one.
FWIW prior to this I also tried PyPy

GetSpellingSuggestion returns no results.
I'm testing out the flax binaries in a .net 4.0 solution. I've built an index containing about 20k items (the complete magic the gathering card database). I've managed to get search results, and get the query to filter on numerical parameters. However I'm totally unable to get the spellchecker to work. I'm using
Strout = database.GetSpellingSuggestion(text);
And I always get

First, let me say that I like Python, so I would be happy to keep the tool in Python if people feel that is a better way to go and we can still get it to go fast. As for precedent, we have several Python scripts

Xapian binary download
I have been looking for an open source search engine for use on a company intranet site to search certain file repositories. I am not a software developer so compiling myself is not an option. Is there a binary download available for use in JavaScript? Also, is Xapian able to index the contents of office documents?

Rewriting opt-viewer in C++
Adam,
The test case was the Python-3.6.0b3 release, 234 input YAML files. The large majority of time is spent with processing the file input. Next ranked was rendering output. Moving the files to a tmpfs partition didn’t change the time significantly (but I would expect that experiment would yield different results with libYAML).
original, single-threaded:

Statistically detecting thresholds...
Rers:
I have some ecological data (stream velocity vs. % cover of submerged
weeds) that shows strong evidence of a thresholding step-function, e.g.
below some velocity, % cover ranges from 0% to 100% (with no apparent
relationship to velocity within this range of velocities), but above a
certain "threshold" velocity, the % cover does not appear to exceed,
say, 10%. There are good

DNAT Question
Hi list,
I have a shorewall installed on 2 interfaces which also has multiple
static public IP. Let''s say I have 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5. I have assigned
nat with:
1.2.3.4 eth0 11.22.33.4 no no
But then I have a situation where I need 11.22.33.44 to connect to a
host in the net zone and appears also to be 1.2.3.5 not only 1.2.3.4.
How to do it? TIA

For loops in R
Hello.
I've just started using R and am trying to figure out if the two codes
snippets below have the same output
gBest<-floor(runif(popsize,min=1,max=top))
velocity[i,j]<<-.4* velocity[i,j] + 1 * runif(1) * (pbestsVar[i,j] -
popVar[i,j]) + 1 * runif(1) * (archiveVar[gBest,j] - popVar[i,j])
and
for (i in 1:popsize) {
for (j in 1:maxvar) {
gBest<-sample(top,size=1)

That's compared to the implementation with the Python parser. So if the
libYAML parser is 6x the speed of that, the C++ version would be about 10x
the speed of the implementation with libYAML, instead of 60x.

Playback + Replay Gain questions
Thanks :D I did see that but wasn't sure if there was an option needed or how it decided to do the album gain. I fiddled with metaflac and checked for the REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN and my files seem to have it :D Suppose there is only 1 file to encode. Does FLAC still add the album gains?

Graph Order in xyplot
I have constructed a Trellis style xyplot.
lengthf <- factor(length)
xyplot(SLI$velocity ~ SLI$width | SLI$lengthf, layout = c(2,7), xlab =
"Width (cm)", ylab = "Velocity (m/s^2)", col = "black")
This produces a lovely little plot. However, the grouping factor(lengthf)
isn't in the right order. My values range from 2-28 and the 2 graph on the

Rewriting opt-viewer in C++
Hi Adam,
Thank you for writing opt-viewer! I've been playing around with it and found it helps me understand what optimizations were performed, which were missed, and why, as well as easily navigate to the relevant code. Wanting to use it on larger projects, I found that it can take a while to analyze the optimization reports. Since there doesn't seem to be too much code in it yet, I

Std. errors of intercept and slope
Dear all,
I have the following output generated by linear regression. Since there is
only one regression intercept and one slope for one set of data, what is the
meaning of std. error for intercept and that of slope? Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Minghua

function for filtering and deleting vector entries
Dear helpers
I have two data sets saved as vectors (temperature and velocity). Now I need
to "take out" a span of temperature and its corresponding velocity in the
other vector. How can I achieve that?
I tried to write a function,which takes a vector entry and then decides
wether to delete the temperature entry or not and simultaneously doing so
with same entry in the velocity
