Rather serious flac problem
Okay.. I love flac but just had a rather serious failure that really shakes my confidence. It resulted in the near loss of a master audio recording. Fortunately, I have a backup. Though there may have been other cases where I have lost original material because I have been compressing a lot of originals and deleting them after doing a 'flac -t' on them. Basically, flac failed with a

Tagging Flac-files in GNU/Linux and Windows
I posted this in the Hydrogenaudio Forums (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=31347) but I'll post it here as well, hope that's ok... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I am having a lot of problems with tagging FLAC-files. I edited the tags in XMMS (in Linux) using the FLAC plugin, version 1.1.o. Playback worked fine with

[Flac-users] FLAC 1.0.4 build issue
Hi, I gave up on 1.0.4 on my osx machine for the time being, but needed it on a linux machine this morning. Grabbed 1.0.4 and it seemed to build ok, but doesn't pass make check. Sorry if this is redudant information. I've seen a few posts recently and can't tell if it is or not. flac-1.0.3 on the same machine builds, checks and runs fine. thanks, mike ERROR: iterator claims

flac and metadata
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The recent thread on archiving CDs with flac has prompted me to ask a few questions about flac and metadata: 1.1) It appears that metaflac only imports limited information from a cuefile. Text data (ie: Title, Artist) and any comments are removed from the file. I can kind of see eating the comments, but why are the perfectly valid text fields not

convert metaflac tags to utf-8?
Hi, I realize that this is not strictly flac-related, but... I've got my collection in flac now, and at the end of the endeavor, I realized that (I think...) I've managed to have a few different encodings in the tags, one way or another. For instance: [root@localhost Zen Arcade]# metaflac --list 01-Something\ I\ Learned\ Today.flac > 1 [root@localhost Zen Arcade]# metaflac

newbie questions re flac on win32 eac and id3v2
Firstly, a big thank-you to Josh for FLAC. Someone mentioned it in a post on Slashdot, so I came over to sourceforge for a look-see. This is just the sort of thing I've been looking for. Can anyone relate any general tips for using flac on Windows for the purpose of archiving cd's? If I can nail down a solid, easy-to-use process, I'm happy to write it up and contribute it to the

[Flac-users] command line util to read tag info
[edit: sorry Josh, sent the first one to the wrong address] I'm trying to automate the process of converting flac to mp3 while preserving tag information, but can't find any way of reading the fields from the flac file on the command line (unix). Neither flac nor metaflac seem to have any option for printing the tag info to stdout. Any ideas? mike

Fixing corrupt flac files
Hej, well I'm not sure because those file that are corrupt have been around for a quite long time. It could have been k3b but I'm really not sure. Right now I was ripping with Audex and tagging with Audex/Amarok/kid3. Those files seem to be fine though. My lates approaches have been with Picard/beets :-) I think it's not possible to share those files without getting in legal

metaflac --remove-all-tags

When running metaflac --list, show nothing on all 21 files, however in amarok and juk I can still see some info on 9 flac files. Howdoes one fix these flac files? are they corrupted? flac -t came back ok on all Anyone ? Richard

metaflac --show-all-tags (patch)
Hi folks, I always wondered why there is no "metaflac --show-all-tags", in parallel to --remove-all-tags. Attached you can find a patch for your consideration. FLAC 1.0.4 beta released
All, I have just finished uploading the source release for FLAC 1.0.4 beta to Sourceforge; there are no binary releases. See the included doc/html/news.html for the changes since 1.0.3; there are quite a few. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.4_beta-src.tar.gz?download Please beat up on this as much as possible in the next week or two and try and turn up bugs. FLAC: getting compression level using metaflac
Why isn't the compression level added in a metadata block by the flac encoder itself (just like the encoder version)? In this way all programs that read the file can see what compression level was used. thx 2007/7/4, Scot Thompson <scot.thompson@cox.net>: > > This has been asked many times. The answer is no. Tags in files with Unicode BOM
Is there any way for flac or metaflac to support input from files with Unicode Byte Order Marks (BOM)? In command: metaflac --remove-all-tags --set-tag-from-file="CUESHEET=CDImage.cue" --set-tag-from-file="LOGFILE=CDImage.log" CDImage.flac If "CDImage.cue" contains Unicode characters, most text editors append BOM at the 1st line of this file. And metaflac does not

test_metaflac fails in make check for flac 1.1.2 after --add-padding is performed
Josh, I applied this patch and all the "make check" tests passed (but I do not have valgrind and I did not use --enable-exhaustive-tests during configure, so it isn't all the tests).
