[Flac-users] New to the list
Hello all, I'm new to the list. I have been using flac to archive my entire CD collection. I think this will take approx. 80 GB (hopefully - that's all the space I've got for now). Anyway, I've been making my own tags with MetaFlac since I didn't find any default ones (for Artist, Album, Track Title, etc.) I've been putting them in Vorbis Comments which seems to be

Account not authorized to login - WHY NOT?
Hello: I have installed Samba successfully on a Sun Solaris 8 (Sparc box). Using the SWAT web tool I was ablt to get a smb.conf file created. If can connect directly from the Sparc box with no problems, example: smbclient //localhost/homes added interface ip=10.12.254.58 bcast=10.12.254.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Password: Domain=[SMBWORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.2] smb: \>

Lossless/lossy hybrid?
Monkey's Audio lossless compressor (currently win32 only, free but not open-source except decoder) author is thinking to implement a kind of audiophile-quality lossy compression which would filter "noise bits" that are hard to encode lossless but which are (or should be) inaudible and thus improve lossless compression (avg. 300-450kbps). I think that implementing something like this

poppler-utils missing pdftoppm
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I found a thread here about this problem, but no answer or resolution as to whether it's a bug, or even something that can be fixed. <http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=12114&forum=38> I'm trying to get PDF support under DocMGR to work correctly and it's complaining about pdftoppm being missing. DVD Audio & Vorbis
I recently bought a DVD Audio disc and I searched the web and wasn't really able to find much about DVD Audio and Linux. I have a few questions that I was hoping some people on this list might be able to answer. How can I extract the uncompressed DVD Audio (not the DTS Audio portion of the disc, but the 96khz/24bit/5.1 pcm part)?

File/folder with non-Latin characters
Hi all, We have a corporate LAN, with users working in Windows XP Pro. I have implemented a Linux backup solution, which uses Samba to mount Windows shares, and copies files to backup directories, which are shared using Samba, so that I can grab backed up copies of files from a Windows client using the Samba share. I'm using Samba 3.0.14a on Ubuntu Breezy (using the 3.0.14a-6ubuntu

S0 - T0 interfaces question
Hello. I am new in the area, and I have a customer asking if asterisk can connect directly to an S0 interface. Usually I only connect it to an operator using T0 or T2 interfaces. This customer has a private ISDN network, and has ISDN telephones. Then he is asking me if asterisk can connect directly to them, using an S0 interface. I don't see any reference to S0 in the digium adapters site, so

OggPCM : Need more justification for chunked data
Hi Rene, we have discussed the issue of different formats per channel, e.g. different sampling rates. It was not clear whether with PCM sampling of devices this is actually a common (or even used) case. Do you know how multi-channel sound is sampled? Is it created with different widths/rates on different channels? If it is not a common case, we can leave the solution to different streams and

flac improvement??
hello my name is Ludovico Ausiello, i'm a ph.d at the university of Bologna and I've developped an open source alternative to proprietary philips superAudioCD encoder (that actually cost some thousands dollars!) that has better performance (it's seems strange.. but..) I'm interested to use the flac encoder to compress the 1-bit stream that is the output of my encoder (I start

Support .cda as input files
does anybody know why dvd use files for audio and video but audio cd's not? What could be the reason for this? e.g. they could make a file for each track and just put them on an audio cd and make cd players compatible with this format. So for me it has always been a mystery why audio cd's work this way. does anybody knows if super audio cd's still work the same as normal ones?

Samba Questions
Hello, I have couple questions regarding Samba. 1. In the smb.conf, what does "security = DOMAIN" mean? 2. I would like to samba into the firewall so that people can't connect through TCP/IP. What port (tcp or udp) does samba use? 3. How can I prompt user for entering login name instead of using Win95 login name for Win95 users? That's all for now. Thanks for your help.

24/96 ?
Hi people, looking around for a new audiocard, my eye fell on the M-audio audiophile 2496. It has 4 digital in/out and is 24bit, 96kHz. The sound quality is very good, if I can believe the reviews. <p>My question is: can vorbis do 24bit, 96kHz ? -- --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list,

In which release did FLAC support 192kHz sample rate?
Greetings, In reviewing the changelogs it?s unclear in which release FLAC began supporting a sample rate of 192kHz. The reason for my question is that there are many forums and university studies that state that FLAC does not support a sample rate of 192kHz however the current documentation (assumed 1.2.1b) under FORMAT under FRAME_HEADER does note that it is supported. If it was not

best params for safe archiving, 192kHz no-lax and w64 support
Hi all, i'd like to ask what the best options are for safe 24bit 96kHz archiving. Currently i'm only using -8 but there are also some other options like block size etc. Can anyone suggest? Also i'd like to ask whether a no-lax 192kHz mode is planned in flac, seems like 192kHz isn't directly supported although flac can compress such rate in lax mode. My last question - is there

YA-2496
Hi. I've been browsing the archive on this topic and only found a few notes, all dating from a year ago (almost too precisely :) ) -- hope I haven't skipped the mails on that matter, sorry if I did. <p>Basically, I will get in the next few months a MOTU 896, that have 8 i/os in 24/96. I do pro sound recording, so it's more or less my business to have such a piece. Of

XEN problem with dvd startup and seeing the message of starting up the DVD
Hi List, I just installed a new fresh Opensuse 10.3 XEN installation on a dual quad, 2 GB ram, and lots of space on the 100GB. Problem is that using the gui tools that come with suse 10.3, after I gather the info to create a new domain, I click on create and I can see a opo up window showing me the bios starting up, detecting the physical dvd, but it gets stuck in there, install source dvd

How to burn MP4/MPEG4 to DVD playable on a DVD player?
So you have downloaded movies and taken videos in the MP4 (MPEG-4) video format. Want to play MP4 files on home DVD player in your living room sitting on the couch? Well, due to the limits of most DVD players' capabilities, the original MP4 files can't be played directly on regular home DVD players. Therefore, you need to convert and burn original MP4 files to a DVD format. And if you
