Help with ssh -A, screen, ssh -a, detach, logout
Hi,
I've noticed some ssh behaviour that I wish didn't
happen. I was wondering if someone can explain how I
can stop it from happening, or explain why it's
unavoidable.
If I ssh-with-agent-forwarding from one host to a
second host, and on the second host use something like
nohup/screen/tmux/daemon, and from within that new
process session, start a long-running command via

Need help with an issue after upgrading to 4.1.0
Hi all,
This is my first post to the list. My first real major issue with xen.
I started on 3.4.2 and upgraded to 4.0.1 without issues. Now I just
attempted to go to 4.1.0 and I got the following errors in my log.
# cat /var/log/xen/xend-debug.log
Xend started at Fri Apr 1 13:51:15 2011.

why does rsync translate user@host into '$RSYNC_RSH -l user host'?
Why does rsync believe it knows more about the use of the token to the left
of the colon than the program which will be used as the remote connection?
I have a script called sshto with accepts targets like this:
host1!host2!host3
and constructs the requisite ssh ProxyCommand options to do a multihop
ssh to host3 to run a command. Very useful if connecting to firewalled
nonroutable hosts or to

puppet kick question
Hello,
I have basically two questions regarding *puppet kick* (old puppetrun)
when calling a "puppet kick host1.com host2.com host3.com" :
first question) does puppet kick deploy the catalogue on the three hosts
serially or in parallel??
and
2) what happens if for any reason the deployment fails on host1 ?? will

help with tinc unstable state
I am using tinc to connect together VPCs in AWS across multiple regions and
accounts to provide secure communication. For the most part, it works
great. A few times, I have seen issues where something got into an
unstable state that didn't seem to resolve itself. Shutting down tinc on
all hosts and restarting seemed to do the trick, but I'd like to see if
there is something that I can

[CFT] multi server failover setup
I''ve been meaning to test this setup somewhere for a while, but never
got the right app/(real) traffic/hardware to do it with. So maybe
somebody can try it out and let us know if this works...
It''s for applications running the same code/data on a cluster of
machines, so this doesn''t apply to the majority of low-traffic sites
out there.
The goal is to avoid having to

[SOLVED] Re: Backup Suggestion on C7
Hi list,
I've solved my problem.
I've understood some concepts.
I've defined bacula-sd multiple devices with different Media Type and
configured different storage directives in director.
Thanks.

Backup Suggestion on C7
I'm not a bacula expert, but have had 30+ years in the industry doing
backups. I'm a little concerned about what you are planning. As I
understand it you are going to be keeping just one copy of each machine
on a disk attached to the server. This will help if you loose the
running disks (though it is hardly backup in depth), but what happens if
you loose the server due to fire, flood,

High availability for guests
Hello,
What is the recommended way to offer high availability to Guests?
For example, let host1, host2 and host3 be libvirt and KVM/Qemu enabled.
If I start a guest in host1, how can I guarantee that it will stay
online if host1 goes down?
GlusterFS, for example, would take care of storage; but what about CPU
and RAM? How can this be accomplished?
Thank you for any feedback or comment in

[SOLVED] Re: Backup Suggestion on C7
I'm sure some people will tell me I'm doing it wrong but I always just
use rsync for backups, automated in cron.
I may be doing it wrong but it always works.

unable to get domain list of KVM guests from libvirt as non-root user
I have a python script that monitors the guest VMs on a servers running
Xen, but the script doesn't work properly on a server I just built with
KVM. The script runs as a non-root user (same on all servers) and
simply gathers some details on the status and names of the domains
running on the host.
The Xen and KVM servers are running CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and are using the
same version of

PMTU = 1518 over local network at 1500 MTU
Hi all,
I have two nodes, connected to a switch, using Tinc 1.1 from git.
They connect each other with sptps, and to other nodes in the Internet
with old protocol because they have Tinc 1.0.
There is no problem with remote nodes, but between my 2 local nodes,
they see 1518 PMTU. But local network is 1500 MTU !!! So nodes can ping
each other but larger data does not go.

unable to get domain status from libvirt & KVM
I have a python script that monitors the VMs on physical host servers
running Xen, but the script doesn't work properly on a server I just
built with KVM. The script runs as a non-root user and simply gathers
some details on the status and names of the domains running on the host.
Both Xen and KVM servers are running the same version of libvirt
(libvirt-0.6.3-20.1.el5_4) and have the
