Assertion failure in do_get_write_access() at transaction.c:609:
Hi all (and developers in particular) I just got bitten by this Assertion. The one that starts as in the subject, and ends with: "!(((jh2bh(jh))->b_state & (1UL << BH_Lock)) != 0)" Google reminds me that it was mentioned a few times earlier this year, but I couldn't find any statement saying that it has been fixed. I got this in a 2.4.16 kernel, though the

How to interpret corruption error message
(sort-of xposted from linux-kernel) Hi, I am wondering how to interpret this error message, which popped up on a 2.4.26 SMP x86 box two days ago: EXT2-fs: corrupt root inode, run e2fsck init_special_inode: bogus imode (37316) EXT2-fs: corrupt root inode, run e2fsck init_special_inode: bogus imode (37316) EXT2-fs: corrupt root inode, run e2fsck The problem is, the error message doesn't

Rearranging the furniture....
Hi Tom and All, I have been quietly watching the list for the last year (no new issues for me that weren''t covered in the docs or promptly "bug-fixed" by Tom. Boy, has this grown exponentially! Anyway, back to the point (the proverbial rearranging the furniture)... I have been evaluating Mandrake''s MNF as an upgrade for my Firewall box. If I do this( and even if I

Slightly OT: The state of users
Hello all, I don''t want this to be a tome'' but felt a comment was in order. Many new users (Linux and Shorewall are no different) are more apt to not read the manual(RTFM) as they view it as "Taking to long" and don''t understand it''s relevance in their particular scenario. This is unfortunate in the case of Shorewall. As the documents are not only

New user's naive question
I have installed Mandrake 8.1 and chose ext3 for my main partitions (other than root). However, stupidly, I cannot now remember whether I specified ext3 for some other partitions that I haven't yet mounted (these are essentially just spare capacity, though they may have some files on them if they weren't formatted). Is there a simple way of telling whether I should mount these as

Assertion Failure
I got this.. The system was usuable, but not very. If I tried to access the ext3 volume, it would hang. Reboot hung too, complaining about too many open files. Any ideas? I have no idea what triggered it; this is a big file/web/mail server, with all of that on the ext3 volume. And I've never run ksymoops before, but I think I did it right. - Josh Assertion failure in

2.6 /ext3 and audio
http://www.alsa-project.org/~iwai/audio-latency.pdf seems to suggest that ext3 should not be used with 2.6 kernels for audio work. Why is this, and is there likely to be any improvement? - Richard. -- Richard Kimber http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

Your opinion please
The 1.2 firewall contains messy logic to support the old sample configurations in that any rule that contains "none" in any of its columns is ignored. I''m considering removing that messiness in 1.3 and seek the opinion of the list. IP Alias problems
I have a few IP addresses attached to an interface without problems. I also have some chrooted environments attached to these IP addresses. Is there a way to make connections (telnet) from these environments look like they are coming from the aliased IP''s rather than the main IP address? Thanks for any help Kevin.

[PATCH 0/8] RFC: ia64/xen TAKE 2: paravirtualization of hand written assembly code
Hi. I rewrote the patch according to the comments. I adopted generating in-place code because it looks the quickest way. The point Eddie wanted to discuss is how to generate code and its ABI. i.e. in-place generating v.s. direct jump v.s. indirect function call Indirect function call doesn't make sense because ivt.S is compiled multi times. And it is up to pv instances to choose in-place
