Shorewall 1.3.9
Shorewall 1.3.9 is available. In this release: 1. DNS Names are now allowed in Shorewall config files (I still recommend against using them however). 2. The connection SOURCE may now be qualified by both interface and IP address in a Shorewall rule. 3. Shorewall startup is now disabled after initial installation until the file /etc/shorewall/startup_disabled is removed. 4. The

Xen Project Documentation Day for Nov & Dec
Greetings, Normally, we hold the Xen Project Documentation Day on the fourth Monday of the month. However, for the next two months, there are some issues: - Next Monday is the beginning of Thanksgiving week in the US. This is historically a very hard time to accomplish anything (other than shop for the holidays which occur in December), so if we hold Documentation Day on Monday, it is likely

Re: Re: multiple isp. masqueraded machines somtimes work and somet
Why ping google ??? you should either ping your assigned external ip address ( make your config dhcp for your external ip address even if it is static ) ( If your dsl link is up you sould have an address if not you should not ) If for some reson you cannot do that, ping your isp''s default gw or someone closer. With google you never know what is going on. I do something similar with -m

Idle connections timing out
Hello, I''m a Shorewall novice. I have a problem and I''m not quite sure how to troubleshoot it. I''m using a Mandrake 9.0 (Security Level "4") system, which came with Shorewall. (I live in Lynnwood, not far from Shoreline, btw.) Long lived but idle connections are dying. Examples are SSH terminals where I don''t type anything, and IMAP connections

This is slightly more general than what I posted recently on the users list since it uses the routing table rather than the IP configuration of the interface. Example:

If you are planning to use dynamic zones....
... then I advise that you upgrade to 1.3.13 and then install the ''firewall'' script from the errata (http://www.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/errata/1.3.13/firewall). That script fixes a couple of showstoppers in the dynamic zone code. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy AIM: teastep \ http://www.shorewall.net ICQ: #60745924 \ teastep@shorewall.net
