System Maintenance (fwd)
The attached is from my ISP (times are GMT -0800). This outage will impact: a) The mailing lists and mailing list archives. b) search of the Shorewall web site and list archives. I will be out of town when this outage occurs so I will have my fingers crossed that things will come back up ok. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.sf.net

Shorewall Web Site Move
The volume of traffic at here at shorewall.net has reached the point where response time is beginning to suffer. I have therefore decided to move the main web site back to SourceForge at http://shorewall.sf.net. shorewall.net will continue to host the main FTP site along with the mailing list archives. http://www.shorewall.net will also continue to hosts the Shorewall 1.2 web site and will

shorewall.net outage
There was an outage this morning at shorewall.net -- I attempted to install the latest 2.6.7 Debian kernel on my firewall and foolishly let the install process update my lilo.conf. That left me with *no* bootable kernel that was compatible with /sbin/iptables and the boot process hung at "shorewall start" no matter which kernel I tried to boot :-((( Took me a while to figure out how

Shorewall site search is now available agai n
Hmm--either the indexing process is still running, or it''s broken again. It''s 0443 GMT, and I can''t get the search engine to find anything on the mailing list or the web site (I used ''dns'' as my search term). It''s not that big of an inconvenience, though--Googling for ''site:shorewall.net dns'' does pretty much the same thing.

Shorewall site search is now available again
I have been separating the content of my site into mailing list and other content with an eye toward moving the main site to another system. In that process, I managed to break the search function. I believe that I have everything put back together now -- please let me know if you find any problems. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made

RE: Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewalldoesn''t work
Thanks for such a quick reply Tom! Any suggestions then as to what I might do other than putting a second nic in the SBS and opening it up for web access? I don''t like the idea, but since MS SBS includes fireall that is actually what MS suggests. shorewall.net may be down for a while today
A violent wind storm is expected in western Washington state later today and such storms often produce power/communications outages. Shorewall 2.2.2 (Corrected)
I forgot to add the last new feature to the previous announcement. Shorewall 2.2.2 is now available. http://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/2.2/shorewall-2.2.2 ftp://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/2.2/shorewall-2.2.2 Problems Corrected: 1. The SOURCE column in the /etc/shorewall/tcrules file now correctly allows IP ranges (assuming that your iptables and kernel support ranges). 2.

[Fwd: Re: Port 3001 still have problem]
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As I pointed out to Wilson in a private message, this appears to show that no other connection requests (other than port 3000) are being sent from the client to the server (or at least no other connection requests are being received by the Shorewall box). Re: Re: multiple isp. masqueraded machines somtimes work and somet
Why ping google ??? you should either ping your assigned external ip address ( make your config dhcp for your external ip address even if it is static ) ( If your dsl link is up you sould have an address if not you should not ) If for some reson you cannot do that, ping your isp''s default gw or someone closer. With google you never know what is going on. I do something similar with -m

WG: AW: WG: proxyarp <--> OpenSwan VPN/Internet
I´ve figured out the following. I am able to sftp from shorewall 2.4.2 left vpn gateway x.x.x.14 (DMZ) to shorewall 2.4.1 fw x.x.x.11 with /etc/shorewall/proxyarp x.x.x.14 eth2 eth0 No very well. That´s not through a tunnel (of course a ssh tunnel, but no vpn) but with public ip x.x.x.14 to x.x.x.11 If I try to sftp through the fw to the public internet I have the same
