I know that Josh at some point added a second residual coding method (rice2) to support 24-bit, but that only broke backward

Supporting 32 bit data

As far as I know, that is not limited to 32-bit in the format itself, only in the implementation. However, there are two residual coding methods now: rice and rice2. rice2 was added

exhaustive-model-search issue results in multi-gigabyte FLAC file

The second, not choosing verbatim frames over fixed/lpc frames is almost certainly a direct result of the first problem. The fix was changing one local variable from FLAC_uint32 to

Rice coding
Going in details through the FLAC format specification, I realize that there are 2 rice coding methods now supported for residual encoding. I thought I remembered in the 1.1.3 times that there was only 1 method (with 4-bit Rice parameter) [or was I drunk ? ;-)]. Going through the change log, I didn't find any reference to such an addition to the format. Now, the decoder implementation I'm

Improving on Rice coding
Hello, I am the author of the Bonk audio compression program... i've just been looking at your comparrison table, and i noticed bonk gets marginally better compression than Flac on some files (actually i was rather surprised to see bonk on the list at all, it's not exactly high profile :-) ). Bonk in lossless mode is a pretty naive implementation of a predictive coder, so the main

Hi, have I just overseen a link, or is the format description on http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html lacking information on how to actually decode the residual partitions to PCM sample data? Tor

FLAC 1.2.0 backwards-compatibility break not in changelog?
Hi all, Sorry for bringing this up this short before the release, but I noticed something rather strange. I was doing some more exotic checks on the last pre-release when I tried test_streams.sh with FLAC 1.3.0 encoding and an older version (1.1.0 or something like that) decoding. This failed for 24-bit samples and I wondered why. After quite some tests and hex-editors, I found out this is

MixMonitor and ChanSpy whisper
Hello Asterisk list, Hope you are all doing well! We are using the MixMonitor application to record the calls and under some situations the call can be spied using ChanSpy with whisper enabled. Sometimes the spying channel is a person who can interact in the call, and some other times it is a sound file playing a message. The problem is that for some reason the MixMonitor does not record whatever

[Cellar] FLAC Markdown
Hello all! (cc-ing the flac-dev list) I would like to give an update as to the recent CELLAR work on the FLAC specification. • Work has been done to make internal and external links more accurate and reliable. • 'Rice Coding' has been clarified as 'Exponential Golomb Coding.' • Clarifications have been made for binary representation. • Typos and other small changes have been

whisper chanspy in asterisk 1.2
Hello, I would like to have "whisper" channel spy (not private whisper) in Asterisk 1.2. I see here: http://www.the-asterisk-book.com/unstable/applikationen-chanspy.html That is only available for Asterisk 1.4. I wonder if there is any way to emulate it in Asterisk 1.2. For example, to "join" two calls: one to use a private whisper and other one to use a normal chanspy.

Modified metaflac add --output-json
Hi, I modified the metaflac program to output in JSON format if the --output-json switch is used, and made a simple Go program to demonstrate use of the output. I imported the MIT licensed json-c library into src/share/json-c and put headers in include/share/json-c. For example, # metaflac --output-json --list myfile.flac example output: https://gist.github.com/waitman/847a8cae4a650a8898ee If
