Shell Requirements for Shorewall 1.4.6
The 1.4.6 version of Shorewall makes additional demands on the shell. I
have found that both the RH9.0 version of ash and the version of ash
that has long been available from the Shorewall download sites are *not*
suitable for use with Shorewall 1.4.6. The LEAF Bering version of ash on
the other hand works fine.
Attached is a small shell program that will allow you to test your shell

lists.shorewall.net is back up
That could have gone smoother. I had many problems with the NFS install on
my firewall then once I got the server back up, mail delivery was broken :-
(
I still haven''t gotten ulogd to run under RH9.0 but everything else seems
to be working ok...

RE: Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewalldoesn''t work
Thanks for such a quick reply Tom!
Any suggestions then as to what I might do other than putting a second
nic in the SBS and opening it up for web access? I don''t like the idea,
but since MS SBS includes fireall that is actually what MS suggests.

New feature for Shorewall 2.2.3
The following is taken from the Release notes for 2.2.3 (which will be
released in a month or so).
2) There has been ongoing confusion about how the
/etc/shorewall/routestopped file works. People understand how it
works with the ''shorewall stop'' command but when they read that
''shorewall restart'' is logically equivalent to ''shorewall

Upgrade Disaster
Today I upgraded my server to RH9.0. For some unexplained reason, while I
was applying updates from RedHat the server crashed and now my RPM database
is toast ("rpm -q glibc" says that glibc isn''t installed and rpm -qa
generates 100''s of error messages; this is after an ''rpm --rebuilddb'').
Tomorrow morning, I will be backing up my server and

I''ve just completed getting dynamic zones working with ipsec again. A
dynamic IPSEC zone is defined in /etc/shorewall/zones by following the
short name (first column) with ":ipsec". The code is in CVS.
