Higher compression modes from Flake

No. If you want such things, try TAK, OptimFROG, Monkey's Audio or even LA, you'll lose hardware compatibility anyway and they do much better than FLAC will with a -9 option. FLAC 1.0

bitrtate peeling and lossless compression
I just read some of the discussion on the list about 'bitrate peeling' and remembered an interview of Monty that I have read recently. In it he says that Vorbis uses MCDTs <sp> and that these are theoretically reversable. And now, I learn that theoretically we can use bitrate peeling to make smaller files from larger ones, and that leads to my question. Could I theoretically

More than 150 MB / second encoding ?
Hello, Is there some version of FLAC that allows very very fast encoding (i.e. able to process at least 150 MB / second of .wav input data on a standard computer : laptop computer, Core i5/i7, Windows 7 64 bit, 8 GB RAM) ? (It's ok to have a compression ratio which is a little bit lower than traditionnal FLAC) I'm looking for something which is between FLAC (very good ratio, slower than

About lossless and point stereo
Hi, I've read the Vorbis stereo documentation on square polar mapping and currently reading the source code to understand it. But there are some things which I don't quite understand and hope I can get some guidance on. I understand the decoding/decoupling part as it is the same as the one described in the stereo docs: From mapping0.c: /* channel coupling */

opus lossless?
Hi All, It is possible to make Opus/CELT a lossless coder if I allow a sufficiently high bit rate? We considered using FLAC, but FLAC's latency is well beyond the acceptable range. Lossless compression
I was just somewhat curious as to what lossless compression is used... is it just huffman? Tony Arcieri --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/

FlacPak - Free lossless instrument compression
Thought I'd send an update on FlacPak a file format for compressing instrument files (although its more generically a method of compressing files containing binary and audio with most of the smarts being in the encoder file handlers). It uses zlib for compressing the binary data and FLAC (of course :) for compressing the audio. There is now a CVS tarball of libInstPatch which contains a

Higher compression modes from Flake
Flake is a completely independent codebase. When I used it years ago, I remember it being not only better compression but significantly faster as well. I believe some of the techniques used in libflake were added to libFLAC in 1.1.4. However, some of the improved compression in flake was due to options that are outside the FLAC 'subset', such as larger blocksize, greater number of

[bug] --keep-foreign-metadata discards WAV cue markers
Hello, I noticed that option --keep-foreign-metadata discards WAV cue markers. Here is how to reproduce the bug: 1) Create a 24-bit 96khz in SoundForge8, add 20 seconds of silence, and add two markers with "m" key shortcut 2) Save it, compress it with "flac --keep-foreign-metadata testmarkers.wav" 3) Decompress it with "flac -d testmarkers.flac" 4) Open the

lossless ogg encoding with good compression rate
I think that there is a very simple way to encode audio files with lossless compression around 35%. (the compression may be improved if we can lose some lsb bits around 30% for 2 and 25% for 3) Other lossless audio encoder I've seen reach at maximum a compression of 48% (*.flac, *.ape) So the questions are: 1- Is someone interested in another encoder? 2- If true n.1 may it be included in ogg

Why so many lossless formats?
First off, I'm not an expert in this field, but I thought I could probably answer a few of your questions. If anyone else wants to give a more complete explanation, please do. Lossless Video Codec
Hi, has the subject of creating a lossless video codec been considered? I know Dirac is available, but it is a hybrid; saving a file and having to set a compression setting is not very intuitive for a novice. I suggest a lossless codec for the distant future, an idea of the codec's name is: FLAV. Free Lossless Agile Video. The goals of it would be: Provide lossless video, have a

Why so many lossless formats?
Oops, I was a bit sloppy in my organization, and also sloppy on a few facts. I did not intend to imply that A-52 was lossless - I was merely using it as an example of an open specification format that cannot be implemented and sold without being licensed. I'm glad that we are finally getting lossless formats accepted in large public standards. The liba52 library may not be legal. I

OGG lossless?
Hello, I noticed that kbps jumps quite high in -q 10 mode and is nearing lossless compressors. Would it be a difficult task to make OGG a lossless compressor at -q 10? I don't know much about lossy/lossless compression internal logic, so excuse me if my question is out of place. But this would be a really nice feature that would make OGG an "all in one" tool. Cheers, Bostjan
