Preparing for Shorewall 2.2 -- End of Support for Shorewall 1.4 is near!
Shorewall 2.2.0 is expected to be released in the February/March
timeframe so it is now time to begin thinking about preparing to
upgrade. This is particularly important for those of you still running
Shorewall 1.4 since support for that version will end with the release
of 2.2.
For those of you still running Shorewall 1.4, here are some things that
you can do ahead of time to ease the upgrade to

Preparing for Shorewall 2.0
Shorewall 2.0.0 is now in Beta so this is a good time to begin thinking about
preparing to migrate to the 2.0 Shorewall series.
Shorewall 2.0 makes a number of incompatible changes in the configuration
files. Luckily, you will be able to make changes ahead of time to your 1.4
configuration that will ease the migration when the time comes.
a) Shorewall 2.0 doesn''t allow you to specify

Shorewall 2.0.1-RC5
And the bugs just keep appearing...
FWIW, the changes from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 are more extensive and more
complex than those between 1.4.10 and 2.0.0.
This RC corrects two problems:
a) The ''routeback'' option in the /etc/shorewall/hosts file had been broken.
b) When two bridge ports were assigned to the same zone, Shorewall did
not create a rule to allow traffic between the

Shorewall 2.0 and Routing
There have been a number of questions recently about Shorewall 2.0 and
routing. In earlier posts, I said that Shorewall 2.0 would no longer alter
the routing table as part of setting up Proxy ARP.
I have been persuaded to take a different approach.
In Shorewall 2.0.0-Alpha2, the HAVEROUTE column has been restored to the
proxyarp file and a new PERSISTENT column has been added. If the

RE: Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewalldoesn''t work
Thanks for such a quick reply Tom!
Any suggestions then as to what I might do other than putting a second
nic in the SBS and opening it up for web access? I don''t like the idea,
but since MS SBS includes fireall that is actually what MS suggests.

Shorewall 2.0.0 Beta1
Beta 1 is now available.
http://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/Beta
ftp://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/Beta
Contrary to my previous plan, Beta 1 uses the same file and directory names as
the current Shorewall version so the Beta will not be able to co-exist with a
Shorewall 1.4 installation.
Before installing the Beta, please review the release notes carefully. Once
you have installed the Beta,

Shorewall 2.0.0b
Fixes two problems:
a) Thanks to Sean Mathews, the long-standing problem with Proxy ARP and
IPSEC is solved.
b) The 2.0.0 Documentation claims that the default value of ALL
INTERFACES in /etc/shorewall/net is "Yes" -- the code didn''t support that.

Please read the release notes carefully -- there are significant differences

If you are running Beta1, you will need to remove the INCLUDE from your

know; I lied).
