Xen 2.0 and VIA Samuel 2 stepping 03
Hello, I have attached a patch wich adds support for 4kb pages to xen 2.0 proper. (No changes were required from xen 2.0-beta. Apprently mixing xenolinux from one release and xen kernel from another release is a no-no. Other than that there were no problems. Thanks to Rupert Schlick for helping to nail it down. The "noacpi" parameter does not seem to be mandatory. Finally

opus-tools doesn't compile on x86-32 Linux
Hello! Congratulations for getting Opus standardised! When I read about it I had to try it out, but unfortunately opus-tools did not compile on my 32bit Linux system because of a Windows specific header file included by cpusupport.h. The attached patch fixes this by using __get_cpuid() from cpuid.h on !WIN32. I hope you'll find it useful. Andreas -------------- next part -------------- A

xen 2.0/2.0.1 reboots silently on via C3-cpu
On my lex mainboard with a Via C3 cpu, xen 2.0(.1) reboots (nearly) immediately without any outputs. The same setup/version boots without problems on a via epia M board with a Via C3-2 cpu (Nehemia), having a rather different chipset. Starting with option noreboot, nobiostables doesn''t change anything visible. Is this a known problem? Or just a knowingly unsupported chipset? Have you

traffic shaping and classes
I''m looking over this traffic shaping available in the tc* files. I went through this when I did my own traffic shaping outside of shorewall previously. For the average (i.e. home, perhaps) user, I''ve never understood why we use these more complicated shaping algorithms that define classes and guaranteed minimums and maximums and so forth. For most home, or other small use

FreeBSD tar errors on valid empty tar.gz
Seems our current libarchive? That support FreeBSD's tar implementation has a bug where it can create archives it cant read back. This can be seen by simply creating an empty tar.gz file and then trying to expand or list it. In doing the above you get the following error: tar: Unrecognized archive format: Inappropriate file type or format N.B. gtar can list and expand the created file

Puppet updating from relative directories or chroot
Anyone had any experience getting puppet to update multiple OS''s on a single server? For example, for a set of blades Network booting from a primary server, the OS for each blade would be stored on the primary server. For example: /pxe/host1/<normal OS directory structure> /pxe/host2/<normal OS directory structure> ..... /pxe/hostn/<normal OS directory structure> Can

UX/UI of puppet help when face actions have unmet dependencies
Hello, We''re trying to come up with a nice way to indicate when a Puppet module like cloud provisioner breaks a Puppet subcommand because of missing dependencies. When this happens in the current 3.0rc branch, all help for all subcommands is unavailable. This isn''t very helpful. We''re planning to simply mark the subcommands that have incomplete actions as

/etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts
Hello All, I''m new to puppet, and I''d like to know: Is there a formal best practices guide for syncing { /etc/passwd, shadow, group, hosts} across clients from the master? For instance; is it a better practice to make a hard link to these files and share the link, as opposed to just sharing the files directly via a target in fileserver.conf? Inquiring minds want to know...

Burn Out
I think that the time has come for me to back off a bit from my involvement with Shorewall. I just don''t have enough cycles (or energy) to keep up the pace of the last several months. As a consequence, I''m going to do the following: 1. I''m going to stop personally supporting the entry level tools (samples and quick start guide). These tools are a source of constant

Best practices for building a file from distributed data.
G''day. I am wondering what the current best practice for building a single file out of distributed fragments is with puppet. Specifically, my problem: 1. Install munin-node on arbitrary machines. 2. Install ''munin.conf'' as a single file on one machine, containing a configuration stanza for every machine that munin-node is installed on. The current best practice

Mapped username then gets mapped to "Anonymous"
Hi Everyone, I have setup a Samba share to work on our local network with a username map to accommodate Windows XP usernames with spaces, but it seems that Samba maps the username correctly but then immediately changes it to an Anonymous request. Am I missing something? Clip from log file: -------------------------------------------------------------- [2007/11/09 09:58:49, 3]

FIPS 140-2 compliance
I''ve just posted a feature request <http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/8120> relating to FIPS 140-2 compliance. I''m pointing to it here on the mailing list because I listed there five places where Puppet (nay, Ruby!) crashed while I was testing a deployment using FIPS mode on all hosts. It crashed because it tried to use MD5, and OpenSSL in FIPS mode doesn''t let

fgrep with caret (^) meta-character in system() call
Hi there, I would like to use my linux system's fgrep to search for a text pattern in a file. Calling system with system("fgrep \"SearchPattern\" /path/to/the/textFile.txt") works in general, but I need to search for the search pattern at the beginning of the line. The corresponding shell command fgrep "^SearchPattern" /path/to/the/textFile.txt
