Asteroid SIP Denial of Service Tool
Asteroid is a SIP denial of service attack tools which affected older versions of Asterisk the Open Source PBX and may affect other products running the SIP protocol. There are thousands of custom (mis)crafted SIP packets which were sent to a older versions of Asterisk that caused errors stopping Asterisk. The packets were crafted based on packetdumps from Wireshark with flags set for

Parrot
This is just an idea for comment. Perl6, the upcoming version of Perl has separated out the runtime into a virtual machine called Parrot. There are already several small languages (one is C-like, one is Java-like and one is BASIC-like) that target Parrot and given the popularity of Perl its likely that others may attempt to target it too. If R could interface easily with Parrot then it might be

displaying sample size in boxplots
Hi, I was wondering if there is a ready made function or parameter for indicating the sample size in boxplots? Here's what I came up with so far: library(ISwR) data(energy) attach(energy) boxplot(expend~stature) sample.size <- tapply(expend, stature, length) sample.size <- paste("N=", sample.size, sep="") mtext(sample.size, at=1:length(unique(stature)), line=2,

unreachable trusted domains in enterprise environment
Hi All We have quite a complex enterprise environment which includes a global domain and lots of little asteroid domains all trusted by the central domain. We have (imaginatively) called this central domain ENTERPRISE. I have configured samba to be an ADS member server successfully, but due to our network design many of the asteroid domains's DC's are uncontactable from our regional

[StatDataML] compile error
Hi, sorry if this is OT here. I'm trying to compile StatDataML[1] to import Matlab data into R. The R part works fine but compiling the Matlab part exits with this error message (following the INSTALL instructions: autoconf -> ./configure -> make): ,----[ patrick at trurl:~/src/statdatml/StatDataML/MatOct> make ] | make[1]: Entering directory

Vista SP1 performance fix - maybe!
Perhaps this may be of help... From: http://www.wservernews.com/ Slow Vista File Copy Nightmare Solved! WSN Reader Nick's Vista Horror story in last issue has a follow-up. FLAC implementation in Windows 10
Hi all, Quite some time ago, it became clear that Windows 10 would feature out-of-the-box decoding support for the FLAC format. However, I discovered today that Windows 10 will feature FLAC encoding support as well, in the CD rip feature of Windows Media Player. It seems that Microsoft decided to take the reference implementation, as the generated files have "reference libFLAC 1.3.0

Facebook page for FLAC
I'm one of the co-admins of the Facebook page for FLAC. 15 hours ago, I posted a message giving a vague "heads up" that a new release is on the way. Since then there have been 3 shares, 6 comments, 128 likes and 4451 people reached. That's slightly more than the page's audience. That's more than what the previous release announcement (from November 2014) got. -- -Dec.

OpenLDAP setup and bootstraping in CentOS 6
I'm having trouble getting openldap through its initial setup. I created a /etc/openldap/slap.conf file with a default rootdn and rootpw, and they didn't seem to take effect. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth I found that if there is a config directory at /etc/openldap/slapd.d, it will ignore slapd.conf. I can't figure out how to translate slapd.conf into the (new?) standard

Sorry, most of the testmaterial isn't copylefted, and I don't think it is possible to get a nice copylefted test library. That's because most copylefted material is indie, and sadly the mastering techniques

I write about R every weekday at the Revolutions blog: ?http://blog.revolutionanalytics.com and every month I post a summary of articles from the previous month of particular interest to readers of r-help. In case you missed them, here are some articles related to R from the month of November: Dirk Eddelbuettel and Romain Francois went to Google to talk about integrating R (using Rcpp, for

Disk fragmentation
I have been running a lot of large compression tests to see how well Martijn van Beurden's new presets do and was once again reminded how real the fragmentation problem still is. To have decent speed it's necessary to run multiple encoders in parallel. In my setup FLAC was compressing four files at the same time and each instance writes tiny bits of data to disk at once. A
