Schedule write errors?
My BackgrounDRb server intermittently bails out with the following exception
in the middle of a long running task running on a Worker sub classed
from BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker (the point at which it raises this exception
is different each time it runs)
/opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/packet-0.1.5/lib/packet/packet_core.rb:145:in

Git branch with compiling fixes for win32
I found this git repo that contains fixes for mingw32 compilation of
flac: git://code.entropywave.com/git/flac.git
Switch to the "ew" branch to see the fixes. I'd be glad if this went
upstream as it'd make my job easier.

What happened with portaudit?
Hello,
One of my machines I got a report about 3 vulnerable packages (php4,
ruby, openssl) in tomorrows security run output, but in today's security
run output all of them disappeared, but nobody upgraded or removed the
affected packages. I reinstalled portaudit, refreshd its database, but
now it reports 0 affected pakages. The pkg_info command lists that three
packages, so they are

Problem with portaudit's database
Hello!
Yesterday portaudit notified me about squid's vulnerability, but today it
didn't (despite I haven't upgraded squid). This has attracted my attention,
so I've compared yesterday's and today's auditfile.tbz:

vs.

quick and easy way to convert id3-tagged flac to flac-tagged flac?
So before i knew better, i encoded a lot of my CDs in flac and added
id3 tags (they worked, so great!).
I know i've seen mention of others doing this; anyone gone to the
trouble to write a tag conversion tool? Shouldn't be too tough,
but i'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

Variable alias
Hi Everyone,
is there the possibility in R to assign a variable to be an alias of
another one?
Example:
x <- 17
# assign y to be an alias of x
y # returns 17
x <- 4
y # returns 4

sporadic slow/non response, problems copying to sent folder
After experiencing these symptoms through many of the release
candidates, we've been at v1.0.0 now for a few weeks, and they're still
there. Perhaps a config issue with my setup (mbox locks?). It's really
too disrupting to continue using this way. I've included symptoms,
client info, mta info, log entries and config file. What other
information can I provide? Please

R on the cloud - Windows to Linux
Hello,
I'm working with the gam function and due to the amount of data I am
working with it is taking a long time to run. I looked at the tips to get
it to run faster, but none have acceptable side effects. That is the real
problem.
I have accepted that gam will run a long time. I will be running gam many
times for many different models. To make gam useable I am looking at
splitting the work

xmms plugin bug report - macOS 10.3, darwinports
Hi all -
I've just finished building flac in the "darwinports" environment
on MacOS 10.3.9.
The port maintainer (i've cc'd him) had disabled the xmms plugin build.
I wanted that, so I changed the portfile and built locally, yada yada.
I've run into three problems, only two of which I've seen reported
in the list archives here.
1) configure doesn't properly

Issues with Puppet on FreeBSD / Creating a Recipe
Hi,
I am running an environment with 15 FreeBSD servers on which I want to
maintain ports, rc.conf settings, and assorted configuration in
/usr/local/etc/. Looked around the existing Puppet docs, I got a
puppetmaster and a test client to work and install a package as
specified in the site manifest. This is very basic but awesome!
I want to create a puppet FreeBSD HowTo that addresses a

[LLVMdev] Newbee question: LLVM backend regression tests for thumb1 targets on simulator possible?
Hello,
as a newbee, I'd appreciate some support on regression test setup.
Specifically, I am interrested in the feature of tail call optimizations for
the ARM v6m targets. This feature currently seems to be completely
deactivated at the moment (v6m being based on thumb1 ?!). According to my
code-reading, this feature will involve some modifications in epilogue
generation.

Why dovecot does not want to read my acl file?
Hi,
Simple Scenario: Shared namespace and a specific UNIX group should have
access to it. System is Debian lenny (stable).

mail_executable = /usr/local/sbin/dovecot-imap-fix.sh

Escaping inside code blocks?
I am doing unit-tests for Maruku and every once in a while I run into
some doubts.
I am posting a lot to the list, but all of these messages should be
in-topic (tell me if not).
Consider the input:
---
`There is a literal backtick (\`) here.`
`There is a literal backtick (\\`) here.`
``There is a literal backtick (`) here.``
---
The documentation says that line 2 and 3 are equivalent.

an rpm howto question
I am in a precarious spot....
I run centos 4.0. I upgraded my mod_perl RPM to mod_perl 2.0.1. CGI.pm 3.10 (3.05 comes with centos 4.0) fixes some namespace issues with mod_perl vs mod_perl 2.0.1. I need to upgrade to it to 3.10. Yet that file belongs to the perl rpm that comes with centos.
What do people generally do in this type of situation?
Do I need to compile a new perl just to upgrade
